When should this lesson be used?
“My Apartment” is a speaking lesson plan download designed to use with pre-intermediate students. Prior to using this speaking lesson plan download, I suggest you introduce your students to vocabulary that describes typical features of a city and apartment. This lesson should be used with students that are familiar with the present simple tense. By the end of the lesson a student should be able to use the present simple to talk about an apartment.

13. My name is Tyler. I live with my family in a neighbourhood near the center of town. We live in a tall modern apartment building. Our apartment is on the 23rd floor of the building. When you enter the apartment building, there is a large entrance. On the ground floor, you take the elevator to reach our apartment. Our apartment is bright and spacious. There are three bedrooms. It also has a modern kitchen and a nice dining area. There is also a large living room. The living room has large sliding doors that open to the balcony. From the balcony, there is a wonderful view across the city and down to the ocean.
14. There are two washrooms in the apartment. A small washroom is attached to my parents’ bedroom and the other is for me, my sisters and any guests. The laundry is quite small. Next to my bedroom is a spare room. When my grandparents come to stay with us, they sleep in this room. My parents like modern furniture. My mother is a painter so we have a lot of art on the walls. Most of the walls are white because my parents don’t really like dark colors.
15. to be continued… It gets very hot in summer so we have air- conditioning in the house. We don’t have central heating because winter is very short here. There is a large communal garden at the back of the apartment building, and we have two car spaces in the underground car park. I like our apartment. It is close to my school and my dad can walk to work. There are many shops and a large supermarket nearby but my mom’s office is far. She has to drive to work.
