  1. BRIEF HISTORY OF IT PROGRAM Inception at USF-Lakeland branch campus

    •  BSIT program created in early 2000s as an all online program –  At USF Lakeland •  BSIT program transferred to College of Engineering in 2012 –  USF Lakeland campus was closed •  BSIT program moved to our Department in 2013/2014 –  In the middle of the ABET review period for Computer Science and Computer Engineering •  Next ABET accreditation window for our College is 2019 –  IT program is being readied for this opportunity

    Computer Science •  BS and MS in Computer Engineering •  BS and MS in Informa?on Technology – BS is online only, MS is online and face-to-face •  PhD in Computer Science and Engineering The BSCpE is accredited by EAC of ABET. The BSCS is accredited by CAC of ABET.

  7. KEY CHANGES ARE… Removal of core courses •  Computer Organization

    •  Operating Systems •  Software Engineering •  IT Seminar Addition of new core courses •  Foundations of Cyber Security (upgraded to core) –  IT Electives reduced from 7 courses to 6 •  Systems Architecture and Integration for IT (replaces Comp Org) •  Cloud Computing for IT (Replaces Software Eng.) •  System Administration of Maintenance for IT (Replaces OS)
  8. WHAT ABOUT MY OLD COURSES?? •  Don’t worry… they will

    still count towards your degree! •  No previously taken courses will be dropped •  Appropriate course substitutions will be made •  Can optionally use new core courses as electives or core –  New students entering the program will not have this option
  9. OTHER CHANGES INCLUDE: •  Higher admission bar (3.0, not 2.0,

    in key courses) –  Will be enforced Fall 2018 •  Continued strong emphasis on academic integrity –  Face-to-face exams (same as CS and CpE) •  More (and newer) options for IT and general electives –  e.g.: (good general elective!) (This is a face to face course)
  10. OTHER CHANGES INCLUDE: •  Greater emphasis on internships –  Up

    to 9 hours of academic credit –  Working towards partnerships within USF for opportunities •  Such as: •  Salesforce Certification workshop offered as Independent Study (CIS 4900) this semester!

    new updates (via email) •  Are you within a year of graduating? –  Submit your checklists and meet with advisor •  Check your email (or phone) for reminders/email! –  Will work out plan to graduate as soon as possible •  Need help with full schedule? –  Will develop a full (12 to 15 hrs/semester) schedule for each student –  Drop add ends this week! •  Registration for Spring 2018 begins October 30th
