Kids DIY Media Partnership Workshop 2: Session 2

Daylong workshop aimed reviewing the Kids DIY Media Partnership’s ongoing research into children's digital do-ityourself (DIY) media production, and discussing the social, ethical and
educational implications of young children’s increased participation in making and sharing their own media creations online with project partners and key stakeholders.

Session 2 was presented by: Dr. Deborah Fields (Co-PI, Utah State University), Yana Boeva (PhD Candidate, Research Assistant, York University). Vinca Merriman (MI Student, Research Assistant, University of Toronto), and Marco Piccolo (BA Student, Research Assistant, University of Toronto).

    paper easel as well as the game itself to design and work on ideas. Participants will be asked to make a level on their favourite platform in pairs The levels will be presented to the group and participants will be asked to discuss the games, including comparing ideas and giving advice.

In the final year of our project we will recruit 10-12 kids who are participants in our case study sites for a special “Kids Advisory Board.” We seek their input on our findings of design, policy, and most importantly best practice guidelines.

  14. 31 Things to Consider Kids we recruit will likely be

    some of the most involved kids in DIY Media. They will not be representative of ‘typical’ participants, but they will be highly experienced. Recruiting the most involved kids While we have questions we hope to ask, we want to be responsive to kids’ own questions, to issues they see that we have not. Getting children’s consent usually requires parental consent as well. In signed forms. Consent, Consent, Consent We have our questions. They may have their own!
