  2. This center was founded by Mactech Company Ltd to nurture

and empower young talents on matters concerning digital innovations and ways of alleviating poverty. It is open to all who have got intrest in learning basic to complex skills related to application of I.C.T in enterpreneurship
  3. Our mission is to foster innovation and entrepreneurship by developing

a mature ecosystem that supports the creation of new innovative I.C.T startups within Arid and Semi arid regions.
  4. A techpreneur is someone who has decided to build a

business that revolves around technology to make things more efficient or work better. Basically, he is someone who builds a business around technology. In a way techpreneurship and Enterpreneurhsip are just but the same things and can be refered to as the capacity and willingness to develop, organize and manage a business venture along with any of its risks in order to make a profit but mostly, techpreneuship is about building things and being passionate about the changes that technology is bringing to the world - and building a business that revolves around it.
  5. As a new and highly potential techpreneur, you need to

be aware of a number of key factors to ensure the best chance of success, including researching your business idea, business planning, funding and finding and keeping customers.among other key issues. Venturing into business isn’t a walk in the park and mantaining the same won’t be a bed of roses. You must equip yourself with the armour of hope and faith.
  6. Your business's location is key to successful operations and overall

growth. When choosing your location, consider the company’s needs, customers convenience and availability, employees and equipment needed to complete the services. A good location goes a long way in making the business successful and it should be chosen carefully. This is generally based on the Market reseach conducted. It helps one analyze his/her potential competitors as well as the other available opportunities within the region. NB: In the case of a retail business one needs to be located in a well populated area and one which is easily
  7. This is a key factor that you can not look

down upon. Many small businesses struggle to make profits early in their operations; spending big amounts of money before establishing a strong business clientele may increase the probability of failure. Starting small can also help entrepreneurs make changes to business operations without sacrificing too much of their invested capital. Start small but think big as you invest and maximise on the little resources at your disposal.
  8. BUSINESS PLATFORMS AND STRUCTURE: Decide on the form your business

will take; sole trader, partnership, limited company etc. Also, decide on the key roles and job descriptions within the business and who will do them. Entrepreneurs must relate with or recruit individuals with the right type of education and experience that will not create significant financial burdens on the small business. The foundations of a business are the key to the eventual success, and this determines the future of the business. Once you launch your business these are the tasks that your business will rely on.
  9. CAPITAL/FINANCES: If you ask why small businesses can’t start, the

answer always comes down to funding. But with a different approach to issues, talent and good ideas can propel the startups agenda to greator heights. A good idea is that solves genuine local problems. You shouldn’t be scared but you should come up with a clear plan of how to finance the business during the initial stages. NB: As you start your business expecialy in Kenya, you should know that most if not all kenyan financial institutions don’t finance ideas but already established businesses.
  10. STAYING ON TRACK: One of the basic errors that business

owners make is not spending enough time working ON their business. Too many people spend their time working in their business without looking up to see which direction it is heading. If you don’t take time to steer your ship, it will crash. You need to put aside time on a weekly basis to reflect on the business and go over each area weighing up what aspects need attention.
  11. MARKETING: Marketing is the term for any time your business

interacts with a potential client. Every conversation, piece of literature or press release is marketing. There are numerous ways to market your business and they don’t have to be expensive. The key to any marketing campaign is to make sure that everything you do is tested and measured. How do you know where your leads come from? Without good information, how can you make informed decisions? (About the boy in darkness )
  12. KNOWLEDGE/EXPERTISE – KNOW IT ALL MENTALITY: Knowledge and expertise about

the product or service are keys to a successful business. In case of limited knowledge the owner may not be able to sustain the business and can be fooled by the vendors, suppliers and competitors. When you ask yourself a question “What business shall I start?” you need to get a convincing reply about what you intend to do and how you are going to go about it.
  13. This is the only key weapon you have as a

beginner for many people don’t trust new ideas. I don’t why but I guess they equate you to a conman I guess. Trust me, you will get plenty of negative statement and high number of false promises. Most common “Nitakutafutia market (I will get you market for your products)” Others telling you why you should have tried a different business venture. But, you just need to rise above it and believe in yourself, your idea and your dreams because with a CAN-DO attitude, you can do anything. So make sure CAN CAN CAN CAN CAN is your mantra constantly running through your mind!!!.
  14. Stress is one of the many factors to consider when

starting a business. This is especially true for someone who, as an employee, has never handled the management end of daily operations. You might be great at customer relations, but that is a percentage of the total package. If money gets tight, the bills will still keep coming and the business must keep going. Something will break at least once a week. Sudden changes in schedules or availability of something will constantly occur. If you're not ready for it, you can become both physically and mentally drained very quickly.
  15. LAWS, RULES, & REGULATION• Setting up a new business would

require compliance with various laws & regulations. Each country is governed by separate laws and regulations which require that any new business be registered with certain authorities and meets certain compliance. Thus registration of the name of the company may be required registrar of companies. It is always better to consult a experts or the experienced before setting up a new business in an unknown environment. In case of lack of expertise it is better to approach a lawyer / accounting / consultancy firms.• Non compliance with the statute could lead to huge fines and penalty and hamper the success of a new business.
  16. This has to do with loving what you do. No

excuse about this. My advice to all new “techprenuers” is that you make sure that your business idea is something you are etremely passionate about, deep within your bone marrow, because it just makes the good times even more worth it and the tough times bearable. When you love something like it’s your own baby, not only are you super protective and willing to put in 100%, you need passion, because with it, you don’t mind working that little bit harder, longer, giving it ALL you’ve got. Passion is like the driving force in all your endervours.
  17. Been rigid on ideas/products will render you obsolete in the

world of technopreneurship. This is because the technology field changes all the the days ending with “y” i.e Monday – Sunday. At times you may be not be convinced that your particular product needs development. But something you should know is that every day is a change. The best way to handle this is by been open to knew issues and regularly researching to know the kind of SOA techonogies and how to impelement them. .. .
  18. For all the potential enterpreneurs in this forum, know that

babylon wasn’t built in a day and that nothing comes easy. There is need to embrace the power of patience and determination in all that we do . . . Nolan Bushnell, Entrepreneur said: “The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.”
