    Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ ‘Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. 18It will produce thorns and thistles for you…’ ”

    man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”
  4. WE WILL WORK IN HEAVEN Revelation 22:2-3 “2On each side

    of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him.”

    Increase Our Joy Q: How can our work glorify God? Q: How can our work increase our joy?
  6. TO GLORIFY GOD & INCREASE OUR JOY Genesis 1:27-28 “27So

    God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. 28God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.’ ”
  7. WHY DID GOD CREATE WORK? 1. To Glorify God and

    Increase Our Joy 2. To Provide For Our Needs Q: Is this just providing for our physical needs like food and shelter?
  8. TO PROVIDE FOR OUR NEEDS 2 Thessalonians 3:7-10 “7For you

    yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, 8nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you…”
  9. TO PROVIDE FOR OUR NEEDS 2 Thessalonians 3:7-10 “9We did

    this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate. 10For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: ‘The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.’ ”

    works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense.” • Proverbs 10:4 “Lazy hands will make you poor; hard- working hands will make you rich.”

    To Increase Our Joy 2. To Provide For Our Needs 3. To Provide For The Needs of Others Q: Do you view your career as a way to make money for others?
  12. TO PROVIDE FOR THE NEEDS OF OTHERS 1 Timothy 5:8

    “Everyone should take care of all their own people. Most important, they should take care of their own family. If they do not do that, then they do not accept what we believe. They are worse than someone who does not even believe in God.”
  13. TO PROVIDE FOR THE NEEDS OF OTHERS Acts 20:35 “I

    always showed you that you should work just as I did and help people who are weak. I taught you to remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘You will have a greater blessing when you give than when you receive.’”
  14. WHY DID GOD CREATE WORK? 1. To Glorify God And

    To Increase Our Joy 2. To Provide For Our Needs 3. To Provide For The Needs of Others 4. To Spread The Kingdom and The Gospel Q: How can you spread the gospel in your work? Q: How can you advance the Kingdom in your work?
  15. TO SPREAD THE KINGDOM AND THE GOSPEL 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

    “11Do all you can to live a peaceful life. Mind your own business, and earn your own living, as we told you before. 12If you do these things, then those who are not believers will respect the way you live. And you will not have to depend on others for what you need.”
  16. QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER • What if you are disabled? •

    Can Christians retire? • Can you over-work?
  17. PRAYER REQUESTS • Kenneth’s Mom passed out. She has a

    Doctor’s appointment soon. • The family of a deaf girl, Angela, lost their home in a fire last night. • Jena’s neck issues continue. Pray for wisdom for her neurologist at her upcoming appointment in Austin. • Pray for safe travel for Mary to Houston tomorrow. • For Paul to get the perfect job where He can glorify God! • Brock and the Faulkner family recently found that his leukemia has returned. He is very ill.
