BCS Deaf Church Sermon from August 16th, 2015 covering the parable of the feasts from Matthew 22:1-14 and Luke 14:1-24.

Catechism  Catechism is a created plan to learn about spiritual truths in question and answer form.  Question 1: Who is the first and best of beings?  Answer: God is the first and best of beings.  Scripture: Isaiah 44:6; Psalm 8:1; 96:4; 97:9, 1 Samuel 2:2  Question 2: What is the chief end of man?  Answer: Man’s chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy him forever.  Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:31; Psalm 16:11; 37:4; 73:25-26; Isaiah43:7.

Feasting in the Kingdom  “Jesus was either at a feast, coming from a feast, or going to a feast”  Q: Why is eating and feasting so important in that culture, our culture, and in the Kingdom?  -Opportunity for Community  -Act of thanksgiving / celebrating God’s provision  -It is a necessary break in our schedules
10. Bring Back Family Dinners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rules: No one leaves early…. No technology….. Everyone talks / participates…… No one starts until we give thanks….Family Worship / Teaching time?

12. Luke 14: Great Feast  Q: Who is the giver of the banquet?  -God  Q: Who was invited?  -”Many guests” (Jews)  Q: Do the guests come?  Q: What are their excuses?
13. What are our lame excuses for avoiding Jesus?
14. Luke 14: Great Feast  Q: After the guests did not show up, whom did the master invite?  -Everyone else (Gentiles – us!)  Q: What happened to the first invited guests?  -Left out!
15. Matthew 22 The Great Wedding Feast
16. The Great Wedding Feast  Q: Who is the King?  -God  Q: Why did he give the feast?  -For his son  Q: How did the people respond to the messengers who ivited them?  -Persecuted and abused
17. The Great Wedding Feast  Q: What happens to the people of the Kingdom – the invited guests – after they refuse the invitation and hurt the King’s messengers?  -Punished!  Q: Who is invited next?  -Everyone!

Great Wedding Feast  Q: What does it mean that the man does not have on proper wedding clothes and why is he kicked out of the feast?  Q: How do we get properly “clothed” for the wedding feast of heaven?  Rev 6:11: “Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer”
19. What do we learn from these parables:  -The Kingdom of God is a celebration! It is a party! Not a boring thing or a list of rules and restrictions!  -We are made for community and communication!  -We need to get rid of lame excuses in our lives for not following the life God wants to give us!  Many are invited – few make it!  -We need to make sure we are “properly clothed” for the Great Wedding Feast at the end of time! – How – through faith in Jesus and forgiveness of sins.
