Our slide deck from MadLat 2016 at Red River College in the spring of 2016. The topic: Virtual Reality for the classroom. We had a 3 hour workshop following these slides to get educators into virtual reality and creating content for their own experiences.

  1. What is VR? Virtual Reality is taking somebody and extending

    their perception of reality through the use of technology. You can send people anywhere in the world or anywhere you can dream. Send students to places they have never imagined and enhance the experience in the classroom by literally sending them somewhere.

    platforms available to you right now. You may have heard of the Ocuulus Rift but there are several more options available to you including: 1. HTC Vive 2. Samsung GearVR 3. NOON VR 4. Google Cardboard This list is ordered in regards to the cost and complexity of the applications.
  3. Oculus Rift • Owned by Facebook • Originally started as

    a kickstarter • 3 versions ◦ DK1 - Initial release ◦ DK2 - Most common version available ◦ CV1 - Recent release for commercial use
  4. HTC Vive • Owned by valve • Purposed around room

    scale VR • Intended for game use • Required ultra powerful PC
  5. Gear VR • Produced by Samsung for use in their

    phones • Powered by Oculus Rift • Better than cardboard HMDs • Requires specific hardware
  6. NOON VR 1. Basically just another Google Cardboard 2. Specific

    for mobile phones 3. Can work with multiple different phones 4. Has it’s own viewer support 5. Not limited to google cardboard SDKs
  7. Google Cardboard • The most accessible VR on the market

    • Most phones can support it • Now supports VR through your iPhone • All you need is a cardboard helmet and your phone • Cheap and easy
