  2. What is zotero? o zotero [zo-TAIR-oh] is a free, open-source

    research tool that helps you collect, organize, share and analyse research o It interacts with online resources and can automatically extract and save a complete bibliographic reference for your citations o It runs both as a web service and offline on your personal devices

  5. Why use zotero? o It’s great for automatically downloading citations

    with the chrome extension o It’s great for separating citations out into groups/collections based on subject matter or reason for use o It’s great for locating papers online or locally o It’s great for generating BibTeX files automatically
  6. Downsides of zotero? o There is no extension for Firefox

    or explorer o Sometimes it cannot get all of the item’s metadata o Make sure that all of the metadata you want is in the item info panel, otherwise you can add it manually o Sometime the default BibTeX file can include characters that LaTex doesn’t like o It generates automatic citation keys which may clash with your existing preference – the style is: [author surname]_[title first word/phrase]_[year] o There’s a fix for this with the Better BibTeX add-on
  7. Chrome plug-in for zotero (1/4) o The chrome extension for

    zotero is a powerful feature which allows you to quickly save items into your zotero account o This method bypasses manually saving individual BibTeX entries or adding items into zotero manually +
  8. zotero across all devices (1/2) o Preferences o Sync o

    Sign in with your zotero account credentials o (you can make an account on the zotero website)
  9. zotero across all devices (2/2) Syncing allows you to access

    all of your items from any of your computers
  10. Better BibTeX for zotero o Preferences -> Better BibTeX (only

    visible after you have installed the add-on) o Change citation keys to whatever format you prefer by using the format functions o See: https://retorque.re/zotero-better-bibtex/citation-keys/ o To restore back to zotero default, either turn off Better BibTeX or use [zotero:clean] function
