2020 Reasons to use password protection for the attachments? • Only the specific persons can see the files • For missending prevention • Psychological Safety for Receivers • Psychological Safety for Senders • Policy rules of company to use it • Customers force us to use it • It is compressed • It can keep folder structure • Feel relieved when the mail is forwarded • It is not rejected by the Virus Scanner by mistake • It is not tampered • It is useful that the multiple files are archived in to one file

2020 Reasons NOT to use password protection for the attachments • It can be scanned by gateway.  Psychological Safety! • Efficient for work (No need to decode) • The number of emails is reduced (No password notice email) • No need to explain to the foreign people when sending abroad • No incidents, such as lost password and cannot open • Mail server can create search index for attachments

2020 Conclusion We encrypt the attachments for psychological safety, but also we do not want to encrypt attachments, for psychological safety! Currently, in Japan, there is a movement to stop such customs because it is not in the modern age, but if you can refuse to receive encrypted ZIP as a dangerous thing that can not be checked for viruses, it might be possible to quit this old habit. But we do not have the alternative of this yet.
