Activities Progress 1.1 Support the activities of the Eurasian Soil Partnership (EaSP) Secretariat - LoA is in the process of being signed 1.2 Develop an Armenian Soil Information System (ArSIS) using legacy data - An exploratory mission was carried out to identify the status of available information and technical capacities in the country - Next steps: create a task force (different institutions), digitize legacy data and build capacities 5th EASP Plenary Meeting | Chisinau, Moldova 30 Sept – 1 Oct OUTPUT 1:Execution of the EASP Implementation Plan

Activities Progress 1.3 Capacity development for the harmonization of soil data collection and analysis, as well as organization of the Eurasian soil laboratory network - EUROSOLAN to be launched this week in Moldova - 22 countries participating - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan 5th EASP Plenary Meeting | Chisinau, Moldova 30 Sept – 1 Oct OUTPUT 1:Execution of the EASP Implementation Plan

Activities Progress 1.4 Re-organize and update the Williams Soil-Agronomic museum’s database according to global standards of soil classification and data management, including digitizing the collections and contribute this data and information to the GSP Global Soil Information System (GLOSIS) - Two missions organized to international museums - International consultant to be hired to update the database, reclassify soil samples according to WRB, digitize monoliths and renovate the museum 1.5 Support of small projects aimed at mitigation of or adaptation to soil salinity through the application of sustainable soil management practices - A call opened in April 2019 - 9 projects received, 3 accepted - A new call open (until October 31) 5th EASP Plenary Meeting | Chisinau, Moldova 30 Sept – 1 Oct OUTPUT 1:Execution of the EASP Implementation Plan

Activities Progress 1.6 Support and promote soil salinity research projects in selected topics to close identified gaps in knowledge - Call opened in April 2019 - 7 projects received, 2 selected 1.7 Summarize and publish the outcomes of the small research and implementation projects on sustainable soil management application in saline lands - Publication under preparation - Results of 5 projects 5th EASP Plenary Meeting | Chisinau, Moldova 30 Sept – 1 Oct OUTPUT 1:Execution of the EASP Implementation Plan

OUTPUT 2: Strengthening awareness raising and capacity development on SSM Activities Progress 2.1 Establish a GSP Education Platform (EduSoils) for online capacity development and training (based on results of capacity needs assessment) -Concept note developed -Need of material to prepare the courses -Conversations with FAO e-learning platform initiated 2.2 Support the organization of satellite regional events to celebrate World Soil Day in 2019 and 2020. -Preparation of WSD campaign in progress (Portugal, Thailand) 5th EASP Plenary Meeting | Chisinau, Moldova 30 Sept – 1 Oct

OUTPUT 2: Strengthening awareness raising and capacity development on SSM Activities Progress 2.3 Develop awareness raising material for wide distribution at regional and national events -Preparation of WSD campaign material in progress 2.4 Award of the Glinka World Soil Prize (GWSP) on World Soil Day in 2019 and 2020 -GWSPs nominations open until October 15 -5 nominations at the moment 5th EASP Plenary Meeting | Chisinau, Moldova 30 Sept – 1 Oct

OUTPUT 3: Promotion of SSM through global instruments Activities Progress 3.1 Implementation of the VGSSM through regional promotion workshops and a capacity needs assessment for the enabling environment dimension (including policy) and the development of a technical manual on SOC management -VGSSM implementation workshops to be organized -Interested countries to contact the GSP Secretariat -Manual on SOC management under preparation, includes a chapter on SOC- rich soils 5th EASP Plenary Meeting | Chisinau, Moldova 30 Sept – 1 Oct

OUTPUT 3: Promotion of SSM through global instruments Activities Progress 3.4 Support an initial study in preparation of the Second Status of the World’s Soil Resources (SWSR) report elaborating the economic benefits of SSM for farmers and other land users - A sub-working group within the ITPS 3.5 Develop a report to assess the international status of black soils under the INBS, including a regional chapter for Eurasia - 2nd Workshop of INBS to be held this week in Moldova - Next steps will be discussed there (monitoring network and report) 5th EASP Plenary Meeting | Chisinau, Moldova 30 Sept – 1 Oct
