  1. Travel English Survival Kit Essential phrases and tips for stress-free

travel Created by Scott Kucher – TEFL Certified English Teacher
  2. Why This Kit? Traveling abroad can be stressful when English

isn't your first language. This survival kit provides you with essential phrases to navigate common situations confidently. Communicate clearly in common situations Avoid misunderstandings and confusion Feel more confident on your journey Connect with locals and enhance your experience
  3. At the Airport ✈️ "I'd like to check in, please."

"Do I need to take this out of my bag?" "Which gate is my flight leaving from?" "Is my flight on time?" "Where is the baggage claim area?" Tip Airport staff are used to helping international travelers— don't hesitate to ask questions. Speaking slowly and clearly will help them understand you better.
  4. On the Plane 🛫 "Could I have some water, please?"

"Can you help me with my seatbelt?" "Is there a meal included on this flight?" "Where is the nearest restroom?" "Do you have any blankets available?" Tip Use polite requests ("please," "could I...," "would it be possible to...")—they're the magic words in English and will help you get better service.
  5. At the Hotel 🏨 "I have a reservation under [Your

Name]." "What time is breakfast served?" "Can I get a late check-out, please?" "Is there free Wi-Fi in the rooms?" "Could you recommend a good restaurant nearby?" Tip Hotels appreciate clear, polite requests. Adding "please" to your questions and having your reservation details ready will help ensure smoother service.
  6. Eating Out 🍴 "Could I see the menu, please?" "I'd

like [dish] without [ingredient]." "Can we have the bill, please?" "Is service included in the price?" "Could you recommend a local specialty?" Tip In English-speaking countries, "bill" is more common than "check" in the UK, while "check" is more common in the US. Both terms are widely understood by restaurant staff.
  7. Getting Around 🚕 "How much is a ticket to [place]?"

"Could you tell me where this bus/train goes?" "I'd like to go to [address]." "Is this the right way to [landmark]?" "Can you recommend the best way to get to [place]?" Tip When taking a taxi, show the address written down or on your phone—drivers understand written addresses faster and it avoids pronunciation misunderstandings.
  8. Emergencies 🚨 "I need help." "Where is the nearest hospital?"

"Can you call the police?" "I've lost my passport." "I need a doctor." Tip Short, simple sentences are best in emergencies. Don't worry about grammar—focus on communicating your urgent needs clearly. In most English-speaking countries, dial 911 (US/Canada) or 999/112 (UK/Europe) for emergencies.
  9. Small Talk 🌍 "Where are you from?" "How long have

you been here?" "This city is beautiful!" "Have you tried the local food?" "What do you recommend seeing here?" Tip Small talk is friendly and helps break the ice with locals. It's a great way to learn about hidden gems not found in guidebooks!
  10. Quick Travel Tips 💡 Speak slowly and clearly. Speed is

often the biggest barrier to understanding. Smile—it helps more than perfect grammar and creates goodwill across language barriers. Don't be afraid to ask people to repeat or speak more slowly if you don't understand. Learn a few local phrases too—locals love the effort, even if your pronunciation isn't perfect.
  11. Bon Voyage! Keep this kit handy before your next trip.

Practice these phrases — it makes travel easier and more enjoyable. Remember: Communication is about connection, not perfection! Click below to start taking lessons now!: https://englishwithscott.netlify.app/
