Light34 Wooden Outdoor Lighting - Material Guide

Light34 Wooden Outdoor Lighting - Material Guide

Official 25-page Light34 material guide for architects, landscape designers and project consultants.

HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE
Start with the material construction and finish examples, then identify the information required for the selected luminaire. Light34’s wooden outdoor lighting combines a natural teak veneer with an aluminium structure and LED lighting components. The visible wood surface and the supporting profile have different roles in the assembly.

SAMPLE AND FINISH REVIEW
Use a physical sample to coordinate the intended wood tone, grain and adjacent metal finish. Natural appearance can vary, so record the sample reference and approval before confirming the order. Screen images are useful for discussion but do not replace a project-specific sample approval.

PROJECT INFORMATION TO REQUEST
Provide the project location, application, drawings and provisional quantities. Request the selected model’s dimensions, mounting details, light distribution, light colour, driver/control compatibility and installation information. Confirm which documents are required for the project review. A material guide does not replace a product-specific technical submission or a lighting calculation.

CARE AND HANDOVER
Agree the care instructions, access for servicing and applicable warranty terms for the selected product and installation. Keep finish-care information alongside the installation and service documents in the handover file.

  1. Natural teak. Architectural light. Wooden outdoor lighting with patented wood

technology A material guide for architects and project consultants
  2. Wood warmth. Aluminium structure. Light34 brings natural teak veneer, aluminium

profiles and LED lighting into one outdoor product. The wood creates the surface. The metal provides the structure. 02
  3. The character of real teak 100% Natural wood veneer The

visible grain comes from real teak. Each piece carries natural variation in tone and pattern. Finish samples establish the agreed colour and appearance. 03
  4. The profile, layer by layer Exterior varnish A clear protective

finish over the wood. Natural teak veneer Approximately 0.4–0.5 mm of real wood. Prepared bonding interface A proprietary veneer bonding system. Extruded aluminium The hollow structural profile. Conceptual illustration. Layers are exaggerated for clarity and are not a fabrication detail. 04
  5. Manufacturing the material 01 Profile preparation 02 Veneer bonding 03

Exterior finishing Surface preparation creates the base for veneer bonding. Patented coating technology bonds thin real wood to the aluminium profile. A dedicated water-based varnish protects the wood surface. 05
  6. Light34 turns the profile into light Patented wood technology Real

wood veneer bonded to aluminium to create a material for outdoor applications. Light34 The luminaire design, LED system and integration of the profile into the finished lighting product. 06
  7. Why the aluminium core matters Structural support The extruded metal

section carries the profile’s structural role. Dimensional behaviour A thin veneer reduces reliance on a large timber section that can move with moisture. Design flexibility Profile geometry supports a range of heights and lighting forms. Section size, anchorage and wind loading follow the project design. 07
  8. Three ways to achieve a wood appearance Solid timber Wood-effect

finish Teak veneer on aluminium Visible surface Real wood Printed or decorative finish Real wood Main body Timber section Depends on the product Extruded aluminium Grain Natural variation Designed pattern Natural variation Surface renewal It requires more maintenance Not applicable Fine preparation and revarnishing Light34’s wooden collection combines a real wood surface with a metal core. 08
  9. Solid timber (laminated wood) vs. our patented technology Aspect Solid

timber Patented wood technology Natural appearance Natural wood throughout the section. 100% natural teak veneer provides the visible grain over an aluminium core. Dimensional stability Can swell, shrink, warp or crack as moisture conditions change. The aluminium core supports profile stability. Thin veneer provides the wood surface. Reaction to fire Combustible. Performance depends on species, section and treatment. A2-s1,d0 classification for the tested veneered profile system.* Water and weather Moisture and chemical exposure can affect appearance and durability. Protective varnish supports outdoor use, including demanding climates.* * A2-s1,d0 applies to the tested profile system, not the complete luminaire. Exposure suitability depends on finish and detailing. Confirm chemical compatibility for the project. 09
  10. Outdoor performance and maintenance Aspect Solid timber Patented wood technology

Insects and fungi Susceptibility varies by species, treatment and moisture exposure. Resistance to insects and fungi.* Aluminium replaces the timber core. Appearance and cleaning Colour can change outdoors. Cleaning and refinishing preserve appearance. Rain-assisted, self-cleaning varnish.* Natural wood grain remains visible. Maintenance and cost Refinishing intervals and costs vary with timber, finish and climate. Easier care with lower maintenance costs.* Colour care required every 3–5 years. Coatings and treatments Properties depend on the selected preservatives and surface finishes. Described as a non-toxic system.* Confirm project coating declarations. * Insect/fungal resistance, self-cleaning, easier care and non-toxic descriptions reflect manufacturer literature. The 3–5-year interval depends on project location. Actual maintenance costs depend on access, labour and the care plan. 10
  11. Protection at the surface Exterior varnish protects the teak while

keeping its natural grain visible. Water-based protective finish Formulated for outdoor UV exposure A surface that can be renewed Colour can evolve outdoors. Care and timely refinishing maintain the appearance. 11
  12. Independent fire classification A2-s1,d0 Efectis classification of the tested veneered

profile system EN 13501-1:2018 Report ERA-23-277 22 November 2023 A2 s1 d0 Reaction to fire Smoke production Flaming droplets and particles Applies to the tested profile build-up and mounting conditions. Complete luminaires require their own compliance evidence. 12
  13. Historical exposure testing ift Rosenheim assessed real wood veneer on

fibre-cement sheets. The reports document the tested specimens and exposure conditions. 1,077 h 480 h 20 cycles Artificial weathering Salt spray Humid SO₂ exposure Colour change observed. 15. Less wood in the material build-up ≈98% Less wood use

in the manufacturer’s comparison with solid timber A thin veneer makes the difference The aluminium core provides volume and structure. The natural wood remains at the surface. This is a wood-use comparison. Whole-product environmental impacts require their own assessment. 15
  16. Wood veneer warranty & care 20 YEARS COLOUR PERFORMANCE 3–5

years Continued colour performance requires maintenance. The interval depends on the project location. Warranty against separation of the wood veneer from the aluminium profile. 16
  17. A finish designed for renewal 3–5 years Required for continued

colour performance. The maintenance interval depends on the project location, weather conditions and darkness of varnish tone. Steps of maintenance Fine surface preparation Use the approved maintenance instructions. Cleaning Revarnishing The veneer is thin. Avoid aggressive sanding. 17

  20. Technical appendix / Common questions Is the visible surface real

wood? Yes. A natural teak veneer creates the visible grain over the aluminium profile. How does the veneer stay attached? A flexible bond secures the veneer to aluminium. Light34 provides a 20-year warranty against veneer separation. Will the colour stay exactly the same? Wood and finishes can change outdoors. Continued colour performance requires maintenance every 3–5 years, depending on the project location. Can the profile be cut or refinished? Cut surfaces need the specified protection. Fine surface preparation and revarnishing follow the approved care instructions. 23
