As a whole we are slightly under last year at this time. We know that there have been some real pick up issues and we are continuing to stay in contact with Land O Lakes, trying to improve the situation. We appreciate all you are doing on your end to keep recycling. The biggest help is making sure the boxes are broken down-so that you have as much room as possible. Please let us know if we can help you. Triste and Duncan 906 tons Recycled Sheila Morgan, KUDOS to you! Thanks for accepting the invitation and representing the district so well. On behalf of the Recycling and Sustainability Discussion Group of The Villages, Florida, I would like to thank Vanguard High School teacher, Sheila Morgan, for making a presentation on Sunday, May 18, 2014, in Lake Sumter Landing, The Villages, Florida. Ms. Morgan carried in technology equipment and a tri-fold display board to enhance her presentation. It was fascinating to hear about the varied recycling activities offered to the students through the school year. The students are getting important training to better help them respect and care for their environment. No doubt, these young ambassadors will influence those around them....the young and the old in our community. We thank Ms. Morgan, for inspiring us today with so many success stories about the Eco-Knight Club and Vanguard High School. In appreciation, Mary Hampton Program Organizer “At East Marion Elementary, we strive to uphold the “Going Green” motto for the items that can be reduced, reused, or recycled. It was a wonderful accomplishment that our school was named the top recycling elementary school for 2014. Here at East Marion we have five 5th grade classes that participate in making sure that items that can be recycled make it to the dumpsters each week. As a result, the stu- dents learn to take pride, not only in their school, but also in the environment that they live in. Our students learn valuable lessons that will last them a lifetime by participating in the program and it is an absolute joy to see these life lessons put into practice at such an early age. Even our Pre-K classes help out in making sure that items make it to the blue recycling buckets. At East Marion, we encourage each and every one of the schools in our district to keep up the effort in keeping our planet green and preserved for the future generations.” Going Green Spotlight on East Marion Elementary Darrell “Chip” Baker their liaison commented...
