Materials Needed…! Pencil! Materials to develop final composition (Colored Pencil,
Marker, Paint, etc.)! Paper! Tracing Paper! Source Image!
Step 1: Trace your original.! You may use tracing paper
or thin drawing paper.! You may also use a sunny window as a “lightbox.” This method will let you use thicker paper.! …or…!
Tape the original to the window.!
Tape the original to the window.! Tape drawing paper over
original.!
Step 1: Trace your original.! Capture as much detail as
you can.!
Step 2: Trace your first tracing onto a new sheet
of paper.! Leave out some details by not tracing them.!
Step 3: Trace your second tracing onto a new sheet
of paper.! Leave out even more details.!
Step 4: Trace your third tracing onto a new sheet
of paper.! Leave out even more details.!
You should have at least 4 different versions of your
source image.! Each should have varying levels of detail.!
Step 5: Put Tracings away & Wait.! At least a
couple of hours.! Recommended: A week!
Step #6: Choose one of your tracings to develop into
your final composition. !
Step #7: Develop your final composition. !

color, texture, lines, etc.! • Erase lines/ details.! • Make it your own!!
Step 8: Respond to the Process! Answer the Following Questions…!
• Overall, how did you feel about the process? ! • Were you always conscious of your original source material? ! • How did your expectations change throughout the project? ! Your reflection should be typed, double spaced, 12 pt. font.!
Final Checklist:! ___Unused Tracings.! ___Final Composition! ___Written Reflection!
