Do You Even Need a Page Builder Anymore?

Do You Even Need a Page Builder Anymore?

This meetup features a head to head competition between Beaver Builder, a popular page builder plugin, and the block editor (formerly known as Gutenberg) as it's been released in WordPress 5.3. We'll build identical (as close as we can get, anyway) landing pages and compare notes on the process and outcome.

  1. Confidential Customized for Lorem Ipsum LLC Version 1.0 Do You

Even Need a Page Builder Anymore? Is the block editor changing the landscape?
  2. Parameters • Build the same page with two different tools:

the block editor v. Beaver Builder • Evaluate the time needed to build the page • Evaluate page performance • Note what could not be duplicated with the given tools
  3. General Site Info & Adjustments Theme: Twenty Nineteen Genesis Sample

Updated fonts, logo, and header to somewhat approximate the sample landing page. Also roughed in the footer navigation and content.
  4. Block Editor Time to build page: 1 hour Scripts: 9

CSS Files: 5 Page weight: 1.6MB Time to build page: 1 hour Scripts: 13 CSS Files: 8 Page weight: 1.1MB Beaver Builder
  5. Block Editor Wins • Most content was super easy to

add, especially the Media/Text blocks • Duplicating blocks can help speed things up
  6. Block Editor Issues • Cannot set a background color on

an image (healthy mouth mission) • Block widths set by theme styles (wide alignments) • No slider/testimonial or FAQ block in Core (FAQ was built with HTML) • Sometimes, selecting the correct block is hard • Lists with fancy bullets aren’t possible out of the box (these used a custom icon font to insert the icons; I decided I could have replicated it with columns if they were images)
