Community 1.0
Personal thanks Graydon Hoare, Tim Chevalier, Julia Evans
Before today, the Rust community was in "interested nerd mode".
After today, we can grow beyond that.
On Rust Hate-Writing. http://gray- don2.dreamwidth.org/209581.html
Appreciate that Rust is a lovely technology that’s got all
the signs of a bright future, but acknowledge that it’s not without inherent limitations, compromises, mistakes and warts. And then let go of both these views, the boosting and the fretting. It’s just a language.
Languages span communities.
We have a great seed of community members from communities
that are experienced with outreach and fixing community problems.
Let’s not commit the same mistake of "getting the technology
right first".
Assume reasons for not attending are based on valid feelings.
Who's not here?
And why?
Let’s be an inclusive community, not just in words, but
also in action.
Let’s not be an isolated community.
We need help with that.
• Regular learners group ("Just run- ning" is okay) •
Active outreach • Projects under our umbrella (e.g. going to CCCamp with Nodeschool and Ruby Berlin)
I’d like our community to be a center of this.
Please come talk to us.
