  1. Thriller Audience For my research, I held a focus group

with teenagers Teenagers young adults as they are the biggest consumers of thrillers, and research shows the largest group of cinema goers are aged 15-24 For this reason, the 15-24 age group will be our primary audience
  2. Research Findings The primary audience’s favourite type of thriller is

a horror-thriller because: • ‘They’re more interesting (in grabbing attention of the audience)’ • ‘They’re scary’ For these reasons the students said they would like our production company to produce a horror-thriller however they were interested in what a crime-thriller would have to offer. They ruled out sci-fi and action thrillers. In support of the answers to the previous questions, the groups favourite thrillers were: • ‘The Woman In Black because it’s really jumpy’ • ‘Insidious because it’s quite scary when you first watch it’ • ‘Insidious 3 because there are many jumpy bits that really make you feel on the edge of your seat’
  3. Research Findings Following from the idea of their favourite thrillers,

they told me what they most like to see within the genre: • ‘When you don’t see the spirit that haunts within the film’ • ‘Set in the past’ ‘It’s scarier’ • ‘Creepy old houses’ and ‘Haunted houses’ • ‘Focused on a family, makes it more on edge’
  4. Research Findings The focus group also informed us of what

members of the target audience don’t like to see within thriller films: • ‘Gory type’ • ‘Blood’ • ‘Legs being chopped off’ • ‘People getting possessed’ • ‘Obvious plot twists’ It was also discussed that they prefer the feeling of being tense when watching a film and feeling on edge rather than being scared
  5. Conclusion The focus group allowed me to find out that

our primary audience would prefer us to make a horror-thriller as they prefer scary films that make them feel on edge as they’re watching however, they didn’t rule out crime-thrillers as they found the concept of the genre interesting. They like thriller’s focussed in the past and in old haunted houses which are typical codes and conventions of thriller films and they don’t like to see gore and blood. As a group we will look into these findings in order to suit our thriller best to the target audience we can, whilst aiming to make a new original idea.
