  1. OVERVIEW Facebook Brand Pages are getting a facelift and some

new features to bring them in line with the new Timeline format of personal profiles. All pages will migrate automatically to the new format on March 30. This document outlines the biggest and most prominent changes: •! Cover Photo •! Applications •! Timeline •! Admin Panel •! Activity Log
  2. COVER PHOTO To keep the cover photos from looking like

banner ads, Facebook has laid down a few rules. Hereʼs whatʼs not allowed: •! Price or purchase information, such as "40% off" or "Click here to Download" •! Contact information such as a website address, email, mailing address, or information that should go in your Page's "About" section •! References to Facebook features or actions, such as "Like" or "Share" or an arrow pointing from the cover photo to any of these features •! Calls to action, such as "Get it now" or "Tell your friends. The most obvious change is that the timeline layout is more visually appealing. Leading this aesthetic charge is a banner-style cover photo. Cover photos of at least 720 pixels wide will now greet your likers when they land on your page and it will no longer be possible to set a specific tab as the default landing page.
  3. APPLICATIONS Page tab apps will now be listed underneath the

cover photo. Pages can have up to 12, with three being visible directly on the homepage. Although you can no longer set an app as a landing page, you can still “fan gate” or a require a page Like for users to access your apps. Apps will also have larger thumbnails - 111×74 pixels, which is a lot more eye- catching than the current 16×16 pixels. The apps themselves can now be up to 810 pixels wide. They render on a new canvas underneath a header with a link back to the page, a drop-down menu with other tabs and a Like button. Existing apps built to 520 pixels will still display just fine.
  4. TIMELINE Page owners can now add historical milestones and make

specific posts more prominent than others, with the option to pin posts to the top of the page. These pinned posts can remain at the top of the page for up to seven days. Pages admins can also hide individual posts without deleting them, so only the most engaging posts are displayed.
  5. ADMIN PANEL The new admin panel appears at the top

of the page for admins. It gives a snapshot of insights, people who recently Liked the page, fan activity notifications and a message inbox. Facebook is in the process of rolling out real time Insights for Page activity. In reality there will be a latency of 5-10 minutes. This is a huge improvement on current analytics and will give admins a sense of what is going on on the page then and there. Pages can now accept direct messages from users, allowing for private and off the wall customer service. A Message button allows fans to send messages the page directly and for the page to respond directly. This private communication means that customer service becomes a more integral part of Facebook and community managers may need a crash course in customer service skills. Note that the Page canʼt message a fan without the fan initiating the contact. However, if brands donʼt want the Messaging button on their page they can disable it in the Admin Panel, under ʻUser Permissionsʼ.
  6. OPTIONAL EXTRAS Facebook Offers Certain businesses, brands and organizations can

share discounts with their customers by posting an offer on their Facebook Page. Offers are like coupons and don't cost anything to create. When someone claims an offer, they'll receive an email that they can show at the Page's physical location to get the discount. A newsfeed story will also be generated. At the moment this is only available to Facebook managed advertising clients but will be rolled out to others in the future. Reach Generator Weʼve always been aware that less that 15% of a Pages fan actually see posts from a Page in their newsfeed. Reach Generator is a tool for premium advertisers that guarantees that 75% of page fans will see content from the Page in any given month. The Reach Generator pushes the performance of the latest page post and only to fans of the page (and not their friends). Itʼs a tool that has to be purchased directly from Facebook and is only currently available to selected clients.
  7. ANY QUESTIONS? Facebook has come a long way since its

humble beginnings. If youʼve any questions or queries on its latest incarnation donʼt hesitate to get in touch. E: [email protected] T: 086 8099317 W: slatterycommunications.ie
