  1. Career Opportunities In the U.S. and abroad, the demand for

environmental specialists continues to increase. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that jobs in the field will grow by 19 percent between 2010-2020. Further demand is also expected as a result of new and increasingly complex environmental laws and regulations. If you’re currently working in the environmental industry, a master’s degree from The University of Findlay will provide the additional education and skills needed to advance your career. A graduate degree will also give you the confidence needed to seek another position with additional authority and responsibility. A master of environmental, safety and health management supplies the qualifications needed to work in the following areas: • Environmental cleanup contractors • Emergency management offices (government sector) • Environmental consulting groups • Automotive industry • Pharmaceutical industry • Petrochemical industry • Construction industry • Regulatory agencies at local and national levels • Mining • Local health departments International Opportunities For graduates seeking careers outside the U.S., opportunities exist in developing industrial countries that need to build water treatment facilities and ensure that there is clean air to breathe and no hazardous materials in the soil. There are positions that assure that regula- tions are followed and limit the impact of human activity on the environment. Others monitor environmental impacts on the health of the population, checking for risks of disease and providing information about health hazards. Resources for Emergency Management Training The University of Findlay is the only university in the U.S. that integrates an academic degree program (environmental, safety and health management) with a nationally recognized five-acre emergency response training site just a few miles from our facility. On cam- pus, students have access to a 5,000 square-foot training arena, a resource that provides practical, hands-on training opportunities. Want to Specialize? We offer certificate programs in the following areas of interest: • Emergency and Disaster Management • Environmental Management • Occupational Health and Safety Management For each certificate, students may select five from the list of courses to tailor the certificate to their fields and specialty areas, for a total of 15 semester hours.

  3. ALUMNI TESTIMONIALS “Obtaining a master’s degree in environ- mental, safety

and health management (ESHM) from The University of Findlay in 2008 was really helpful to me. Through the course trainings, I learned the an- alytical skills and technical knowledge that are essential to become a manager in the area of environmental protection and safety. At UF, every course had students from different nations, including Native American, Chinese, Indian, etc. My communications skills were enhanced by doing group projects and oral discussions. Hence, as an interna- tional student, I had a chance to practice speaking English at every single moment when studying ESHM.” Ziyi Huang, Ph.D. candidate Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering University of Southern California “Studying at The University of Findlay was a great experience for me from day one. ‘The world in one place’ was not only a catchphrase but a lived reality. Professors were friendly, approachable and very supportive of international students. The courses offered were very interesting and the professors were ex- perienced and highly competent in the field. The small class size allowed the use of better learning methods. Therefore, I would recommend The University of Findlay to any student looking for a good academic milieu in environmental, safety and health.” Sakun Shrestha, RN, MS, Ph.D. candidate University of Illinois at Chicago Chicago, Ill. “I have worked at PSI, Inc. in Cleveland, Ohio, since 2006 as a geotechnical proj- ect manager. In my job, I need to involve various Environmental Phase-I and Environmental Phase-II projects, so the education and experience I got from The University of Findlay in the field really helped me grow my career at PSI.” Surya Thapa, P.E. Geotechnical Project Manager Professional Services Industries, Inc. (PSI) Cleveland, Ohio “The environmental, safety and health management graduate program at UF certainly helped me get into my present position. I started as an intern with Ea- ton-Inoac in Fremont, Ohio, while I was doing my graduate study. Now, I work as EHS manager with Eaton Corporation in South Bend, Indiana. I am very happy with my professional achievement and I am glad that I made a decision to pursue my graduate study in the envi- ronmental, safety and health management program at The University of Findlay.” Ichaya Dhungel EHS Manager Eaton Corporation South Bend, Ind. “The environmental, safety and health management graduate program is great and affordable. Teacher-student ratio is low, hence there is plenty of one- on-one time with teachers and they are helpful. I was lucky to work on a re- search study funded by the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA). Dr. Tim Murphy also brings in research opportunities which is great for students with research interests. The graduate program, along with the 40-hour HAZWOPER training I had also taken, helped me get a job after I graduat- ed in 2008.” KC Shandip Quality Control Engineer Zimmer Corporation Warsaw, Ind.
