  1. What is Facebook?  Facebook is the world’s most popular

    social networking website.  You can access it by going to http://www.facebook.com
  2. What is Facebook?  It is a website where people

    get together with their friends and share their thoughts, photos, videos and other items of interest with each other.
  3. Who uses Facebook?  As on date, Facebook reports that

    it has over 900 million active users.  If Facebook were a country, it would be the third most populous country in the world after India and China.  Almost half of its users log into Facebook at least once a day.
  4. Who uses Facebook?  70% of Facebook users live outside

    the United States.  The fastest growing segment of users is Women 55 to 65 years old.
  5. Who uses Facebook?  Typically, a Facebook user has 130

    friends, is connected to 80 Pages, Groups, and Events, and has created 90 pieces of content.  Facebook has already surpassed Google in traffic levels.
  6. Who uses Facebook?  The Facebook Application platform alone has

    been used by over one million developers to build more than 500,000 active applications.
  7. Impact on Today’s Media  Newspaper circulation rates are in

    decline.  More and more young people are turning away from Television towards consuming content/entertainment services on their computers or mobile phones.
  8. Importance of Facebook  On the other hand, Facebook has

    a far larger audience than old media. The time that people spend on it has been growing.  Facebook is becoming an ever increasingly important part of the online life of people. No modern consumer facing company can afford to ignore Facebook.
  9. Advantages of Facebook  Facebook is an excellent medium for

    targeted marketing because  Users share a huge amount of personal information that users give the site and, therefore, advertisers.  All of this information has been volunteered by users.  In many cases, they have actively opted in to more targeted advertising by “liking” ads or allowing Facebook to share their data with select external sites and partners.  Facebook provides brands with new ways to target ads more effectively than ever before.
  10. Big Brands on Facebook  The world’s largest and most

    well-known brands are leveraging Facebook to build engaged and profitable communities.
  11. Big Brands on Facebook  Coca-Cola has over 11 million

    fans of its Page, while Starbucks is closing in on 13 million.
  12. Big Brands on Facebook  Vitamin Water launched an extremely

    successful contest on Facebook to choose the flavour, design the package, and name its newest drink. The company now has 3.3 million fans on its Facebook page.
  13. Big Brands on Facebook Furniture giant IKEA announced the opening

    of a new location by posting showroom photos to Facebook. But it didn’t stop there. Each item in the photo was up for grabs and given away to the first user to tag a piece with his or her own name. Within hours, thousands of people were scrambling to tag the pictures.
  14. Big Brands on Facebook Software maker Adobe targeted college students

    with its Photoshopped or Not game, asking users to decide whether an image had been manipulated. Six percent of students who saw the game clicked on a Buy Now button.
  15. Big Brands on Facebook To promote the launch of a

    vampire movie, Sony rebranded its popular Vampires application and launched a sweepstakes. In three weeks, it drew more than 59,000 entries.
  16. Big Brands on Facebook All of the preceding are examples

    of how big brands used Facebook to increase awareness and interest about their brands with consumers on Facebook. In this process they connected with their customers, created a one-to- one relationship and got feedback about their products and services at no explicit cost to them.
  17. How to use Facebook  Facebook represents a wonderful opportunity

    for businesses to interact with their customers.  Your existing and potential customers and most if not all of their friends and family are likely to be on Facebook.  Not only this, they are likely to be also logging in regularly and engaging with content on the site.
  18. How to use Facebook  You too can reap great

    benefits by using Facebook creatively. Some ways are:  Contests  Quizzes  Sharing interesting content  Coupons and Deals  Facebook only discounts  Loyalty Programs  Games that promote your brand  Interesting stories about your brand  Customer testimonials about the brand
  19. Competition on Facebook  Facebook has been around for some

    time now. Most probably, your competitors are already there.  If your competitors are not yet using Facebook, you’ll gain hugely with your target audience by being there first.
