Nexii | Advanced Building Construction Summit

Nexii | Advanced Building Construction Summit

Gregor Robertson, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Partnerships
After leading the city of Vancouver as its longest serving Mayor, Gregor now focuses his work on positive solutions to the climate crisis, both with the Nexii leadership team and as Global Ambassador for the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy. His vision for a greener, more inclusive Vancouver has led to record-setting years for new housing, job growth and the lowest carbon emissions per person for any major city in North America. The city now consistently ranks among the top five green and livable cities in the world. Before serving as mayor, Gregor served in the BC Parliament, he co-founded and led Happy Planet Foods, and was an organic farmer.

Darren Hocking, Director of CRU Development
Previously Starbucks Director Store Development Canada. Extensive experience working with national brand chains, so he brings a demand perspective that represents great potential scale, and what those kinds of demand players are interested in. At Starbucks, he was part of team that engaged Nexii. Saw so much he liked in the solution that he switched over.

  1. • High carbon building, in both embodied and operational energy

    • Produces ~10,000 lbs of landfill waste • 4-6 months of on-site construction • Prone to labour and materials shortages • Highly susceptible to wind, fire and water damage • Produces off-gassing and other toxins
  2. Ultimate Solution Starbucks CRU Assembled in 6 DAYS Abbotsford, BC

    • Structural Solution • Walls and Roof • Fully Coordinated Openings • Exterior Finished • Interior Paint-Ready • Non-toxic materials • Airtight, energy efficient • Near-zero on-site construction waste
  3. NEXII • 20% less embodied carbon • 43% reduction in

GHG emissions from operational energy • Near-zero waste, saving 6,000 lbs from the landfill • Faster assembly in any climate • Fire and water resistant, and earthquake resilient • 99% free of Red List materials with reduced off- gassing
  4. Net Zero Energy Code Standards Accelerating • IECC 2030 and

ASHRAE 90.1-2031 are anticipated to require net zero performance • IECC 2021 includes Net Zero Energy appendices for both residential and commercial buildings • California - Net Zero Energy code for all new residential; targeting commercial code for 2030 • Washington DC - voluntary Net Zero Energy code compliance path, developing a roadmap towards code • Massachusetts - drafting a Net Zero Stretch Code • British Columbia - Step Code; highest step is Zero Energy Ready • Canada's Framework - all new buildings to be Net-Zero Energy Ready by 2030 • EU - Nearly Zero Energy Building standard for new buildings across EU countries from Jan 1, 2021

  9. Starbucks Scenario Achieve Greener Stores Framework goals, increase revenue, improve

margins • 500 New Stores NA • Let's assume 10% of stores are built by Nexii: • 50 stores with ~6-week reduction in construction = 300 weeks of additional store revenue • Equivalent to ~6 years of additional incremental revenue which generates ~6 years of additional incremental rent for Landlords Nexii - Starbucks Sustainable Café
  10. Starbucks Greener Stores Framework Provides a framework for renewable energy

operations. Uses 33% less energy to heat and cool buildings. Reduces on-site construction waste to near-zero. Airtight envelope with the highest interior air quality. 99% free of Red List materials with zero off- gassing. Integrative with water capture technology,
  11. Starbucks Scenario Sustainable Coffee, Served Sustainably Starbucks to open 22,000

stores globally in the next 10 years with a target of 55,000 stores by 2030 Goal of 10,000 Greener Stores by 2025 https://www.businessofbusiness.com/articles/the-united-states-of-starbucks/ 13,000 locations in the United States
