  1. Catechism Questions Question 3: How do we know there is

a God? Answer: The light of nature in man, and the works of God, plainly declares that there is a God; but his word and Spirit only, do effectually reveal him unto us for our salvation. Scripture: Romans 1:18-20; Psalm 19:1-2; 2 Timothy 3:15; 1 Corinthians 1:21-24; 2:9, 10; Matthew 11:27.
  2. Romans 1:19-20 19 since what may be known about God

is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
  3. Catechism Question Question 4: What is the Word of God?

Answer: The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, being given by divine inspiration, are the Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice. Scripture: 2 Peter 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17; Isaiah 8:20; Matthew 5:17- 18; 1 Corinthians 2:13; Psalm 19:7-8.
  4. Parable of the Hidden Treasure Matt 13:44 Q: What does

“The Kingdom of God” mean when Jesus uses it here? Q: Why is Jesus comparing the Kingdom of God to something HIDDEN? -Takes Effort -Takes Faith -Not obvious to everyone
  5. Parable of the Hidden Treasure Matt 13:44 Q: Does it

seem weird that the man did not inform the owner about the treasure? -Probably means the owner should have known about it and did not appreciate it. So who is Jesus talking about – the Jewish people. Q: Was the man looking for the treasure? Q: Did the purchase of the field cost a lot?
  6. Parable of The Pearl of Great Price Q: Was this

man searching for the pearl? -Yes – it was his job / his life. Q: So what does that teach us? (One found on accident and the other on purpose) Q: Did the seller of the pearl understand its’ value? Q: Did the pearl cost a lot?
  7. Discovery The Kingdom of God is a great treasure that

can be found by all …. Sometimes it is found by those who are really looking and sometimes it is stumbled on by accident…. But a great treasure either way. Q: Are you searching for it now? -Never stop searching!
  8. Great Desire You can not just blow of the Kingdom

of God – real followers of Jesus want more and more of it and are willing to give whatever it takes to follow Jesus.

  10. Delight We see that after giving all – these men

are able to delight in their purchase. Same – we can delight in God all the days of our lives. Remember the “Chief End of Man?” (Why God made us) = to Glorify Him and Delight in Him Forever. Ps 37:4 “Take delight in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart”
