  1. MOVIE TRAILER Q: What is the point of a movie

trailer? Q: Does it make you excited about the movie? Q: Does it tell you everything that happens in the movie? Q: How is the Christmas story – The story of Jesus’ birth – like a movie trailer for the rest of Jesus’ life?
  2. JOHN 1 1In the beginning was the Word, and the

Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
  3. GOD WITH US… Questions for everyone: • How is this

like a trailer? • Who is “The Word?” • What is the point of “The Word” coming to live here with us? • What have we seen according to verse 14?
  4. Who was John? • Apostle • Old at this time

    • Banished to Patamos • Not martyred • Used to be fast (funny?) • “The one whom Jesus loved” • Intimate with Jesus – inner circle THE AUTHOR OF THE GOSPEL OF JOHN
  5. JOHN 15:9-17 9“As the Father has loved me, so have

I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14You are my friends if you do what I command.”
  6. JOHN 15:9-17 15I no longer call you servants, because a

servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17This is my command: Love each other.”
  7. JOHN 17: 1-3, 24 1After Jesus said this, he looked

toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 24“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.
  8. John 17:24 “Father, I want those you have given me

to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.”
  9. TRANSFIGURATION Q: Is it arrogant for Jesus to want us

to see his glory? Is it bragging or showing off? • No – because it is His glory that is the ultimate thing all of us want! • We want rollercoasters and mountains, and great novels and movies and great relationships that last forever – why? – because we are made to be in a relationship with a glorious God that never ends… these are just a taste of eternal glory!
  10. SO HOW DO WE GROW IN THE LOVE OF JESUS

AND OF OTHERS? • Seek intimacy with Jesus…. • Practice love of others…. • Seek obedience.... • Worship.... • Know his Word…. • Seek his glory!... • Ask him to reveal himself to you….. • Humble yourself!
  11. PRAYER REQUESTS & PRAISES • For Samaritans Purse to continue

to help the Syrian refugees and that God will use the money we gave for His glory and purposes. • Alissa’s friend, Laurie, recently had a heart attack but is already doing so much better. • Dallas area tornado victims. • Paul reports that his grandparents’ travel went well. • Paul is searching for a new job. • Hannah Leah is in need of healing.
