  1. I'm truly grateful to have this opportunity to give feedback

on AppModTechCon. I was able to actually meet the developers of Kabanero, the core component of IBM Cloud Paks and deepen my understanding of it over the course of these 2 days, a truly precious experience.
  2. Why did I participate? • I wanted to know about

IBM Cloud Paks and Kabanero sooner than anyone. Especially the 100% open source aspect was extremely interesting to me. • Although there was a press release stating that Cloud Paks is optimized for OpenShift, I wanted to see how optimized it really was with my own eyes. • I wanted to meet in person and exchange information about the conditions of cloud and hybrid cloud systems outside of Japan.
  3. Less than 20% of total enterprise workload has completed cloud

migration In Japan, it's just 9.7%, which seemed really low to me and I felt that we're behind the times. I was shocked to learn that Japan is on the low side globally. At the event, there were few people in the venue who had completed cloud migration.
  4. Points emphasized by each speaker When discussing modelization, each of

the speakers emphasized containerization and that Cloud Paks is just one piece of technology, stating that Culture change is the most important thing. In my experience, even with containerization, if the application release framework doesn't change, there's no sense of benefit for containerization costs, and some users have given up on OpenShift for this reason.
  5. Recommend session Where Do I Start? Approaches and Case Studies

for Application Modernization. https://www.ustream.tv/recorded/124074109 we can learn IBM Garage’s Approches.
  6. About the demo environment for each session The presentation materials

were registered in OpenShift. Unfortunately, They couldn’t make it because They used Kubernetes on demonstrations in each sessions.
  7. As one of the Red Hat OpenShift User… • OpenShift

also has a PaaS element to it, which conflicts with the Cloud Paks for Applications platform. • As an OpenShift user, if I'm paying the license fees for OpenShift and Cloud Paks for Applications, I think it's essential to determine whether both are truly necessary. • I think choosing IBM Kubernetes Service + Cloud Paks for Applications, which doesn't require the OpenShift license fees, is another option.
  8. AppModTechCon Video Libraly You can see the video on this

website. https://www.ustream.tv/channel/rTfftKwpMsk • 1. IBM AppModTechCon-Chicago -> Day 1 keynote: Cloud paks overview • 2. Where Do I Start? Approaches and Case Studies for Application Modernization -> Day 2 keynote: we can learn IBM Garage's Approaches UseCase: American Airline • 3. Navigating the IBM and Red Hat Portfolios Session -> Talk session with panelists. It is a pity that there were no Red Hatter. • 4. Session on Kabanero -> Cloud Paks for Application and Kabanero overview.
  9. At this AppModTechCon event, I heard case studies related to

not only IBM Cloud Paks but also modelization strategy, and it was a fulfilling 2 days of information exchange. I would like to use the knowledge I gained this time to plan a Kabanero hands-on activity in the future. Thank you!
