  1. Printmaking in Italy TLO Study Abroad Summer 2018 May 14

    - June 25, 2018 DURATION: 6 Weeks CITIES: Ostia Antica, Florence, Massa Maritima, Naples, and Rome Leader: Dr. Debra Murphy (Art History) Co-Leader: Sheila Goloborotko (Printmaking) Co-Leader: Christopher Trice (Photography)
  2. HANDS-ON EXPERIENCES • Artists Books: Students worked on fabrication of

    handmade books and gathered local materials to incorporate into their book constructions such as maps, tickets, and placemats. • Frottage: Students created prints after inking the uneven surfaces and textured walls, grids, and signs in the hillside town of Massa Maritima. • Prints: Students learned how to make prints, using a pasta machine as an etching press, printed linocuts, and gelatin monotypes. • Solar Photogram: Collaboration among Photography and Printmaking students utilizing found objects and stencils to imprint images on negatives using the sun as the light source. • Exhibition: Students welcomed all TLO Study Abroad participants and faculty to their capstone exhibition at the Lobby at St. Johns University. In Fall 2018, students’ work will be exhibited alongside the Art and Design faculty who participated in the program for the past ten years. This exhibition celebrates the Tenth Anniversary of the successful TLO Study Abroad in Italy, EXHIBITIONS • Hiroshige: Visioni dal Giappone at the Scuderie del Quirinale, Rome. • Francesco Casorati, Opera Incisa at the Museo dell’Istituto Centrale per la Grafica, Rome. • Litografia Bulla at the Istituto Centrale per la Grafica, Rome. • Alter Ego, Temple University, Rome. STUDIO VISITS • Il Papiro: Paper marbling demonstration, Florence. • Betterpress: Letterpress studio directed by Francesca Colonia and Giulia Nicolai, Rome. • Temple University: Printmaking studio and gallery with artist and professor Devin Kovach, Rome. • Papermaking Studio: Roberto Mannino, Temple University professor’s studio, Rome. PUBLIC ART • Tutti Potenziali Bersagli, by Mimmo Paladino, Rome. FIELD STUDY • Aqueduct Park: Field Study and Sketching.

  8. JUNE 12 ROME HANDS-ON EXPERIENCES Prints: Students learned how to

    make prints using a pasta machine as an etching press, printed linocuts, and gelatin monotypes. Working in a makeshift studio at St Johns University gave students the opportunity to work collaborative and problem solve while experiencing various cultural differences that framed their creative work.
