1. Evaluation Activity 7 Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product? Reminder of Preliminary Task: Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule. When doing this task, I was in a group of four. The people in my group were Sarah, Krisna, Rose and I. For the preliminary task we had used a handicam to film the task. This was a lot easier and simpler to use than the Canon iOS 600D as only one button had to be pressed in order to play and stop. Sarah was the one filming the footage, whilst Rose was directing her and telling her how and where to stand to film to keep the continuity of the footage. Krisna and I were the two people in the footage doing the acting. Krisna was first filmed walking across a corridor, and opening a door handle into the common room which was zoomed in. We filmed the opening the door handle from behind, this was match on action. Krisna was then filmed walking towards me onto the couch where I was sitting. We both then had a conversation, applying both the 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot from when one of us was talking. There was then another match on action shot, which was a close up of me and Krisna high fiving each other. Though, Rose was the one who edited the footage. From the preliminary task I’ve learnt how to edit using Adobe Premier Pro, as I watched Rose edit the footage which I then took in so I understood how to use it. I learnt how to import the footages and also the music. Another major thing I learnt from the preliminary task was the use of continuity. This was because when it came to making my own two minute opening, I had to ensure that when filming I knew when to cut to keep the continuity and where to pick up filming again. Also the use of the Canon camera was something I learnt. This was because for the preliminary task we used a handicam, so the change from between the two was definitely a bigger responsibility and a change. Before hand, I have never used or had my own personal tumblr account so it was something quite new to me and something I have learnt during this process. Using tumblr wasn’t part of the preliminary task, though this was a major part of the main task as everything had to be blogged and kept up to date with everything we were doing such as planning.
