    their business. • Their goal was NOT to replicate the enterprise datacenter • Projected to drive $3.8B in revenue in 2013 • Has become the standard • For API development • For service standardization • For scale out • Has done all of this with a paltry 99.95% uptime SLA

  11. Innovation Case Study: Netflix • Founded in 1997 • Had

    an IPO in 2002 at $15/share, currently trading at ~$232/share • By 2007 had shipped >1B DVDs by mail to >10M subscribers • Also in 2007 introduced internet streaming of that same content • Today, Netflix accounts for 25% of all internet bandwidth in the US • They are 100% hosted on AWS, who is also one of their biggest competitors

    it’s a business model and consumption innovator • Netflix isn’t a technology company; it’s a content creation and distribution company THEY WEREN’T AFRAID TO SKATE TO WHERE THE PUCK WAS HEADED

    Rainbow Mansion • Find people who want to change the world • Put them together • Remove barriers: conservatism, insecurity, fear of failure • Reward success AND celebrate failure • Watch what happens
