    Demonstrate how to insert Word, Excel, PDF, and Google Sheets course materials into Canvas. Use video and audio tools to develop content.

    support student engagement and guide the student to become an active learner. 9.2: Each multimedia tool is selected for a specific purpose and it facilitates the mastery of lesson objectives.
  3. PDF Files, Excel, & Word Output - Insert as a

    file students download from the Canvas page
  4. DO USE Using PDF Files • When the file is

    already a PDF • To replace a Word document that: ◦ will not be edited by students ◦ contains several images and, even when images are compressed, the file size is large.
  5. DO CONSIDER USING Using PDF Files • To convert Wikipedia

    pages to a PDF ‘eBook’ DON’T USE.. if you think students might want to edit the document; instead, convert to a Word document
  6. Using Excel Files DO USE • For assignment templates &

    documents students will add information to in order to complete an Excel assignment • In handouts/tasks with pre-built formulas for calculating data • To provide students with a downloadable excel example to supplement an existing excel lesson
  7. Using Excel Files & Inline Preview DON’T USE WITH INLINE

    PREVIEW... unless preview mimics the excel spreadsheet exactly
  8. Alternative for Inline Preview USE GOOGLE SHEETS IN PLACE OF

    EXCEL • When an inline preview of an excel spreadsheet will enhance the learning experience
  9. Using Microsoft Word Documents DO USE • For course handouts

    & resources • All assignment templates & documents students will add information to in order to complete an assignment in Word
  10. Assignment Instructions DO KEEP All assignment instructions on the actual

    assignment page instead of a separate Word document as much as possible.
  11. Assignment Instructions When a document must be used to provide

    additional information... Use Google Docs & limit to 2 pages & enable inline preview directly on the assignment page.
  12. Use Audio Recordings 1. To walk students through a guided

    exercise that doesn’t require anything on the screen 3. To demonstrate a pronunciation of a complex term or foreign word in foreign language course 2. Written activators or activities that, when listened to, will result in enhanced learning
  13. Output: Make Private & Embed in Canvas page In Canvas,

    use HTML view to adjust the width and height to: width="75%" height="80"
  14. Upload to files and insert in page *MP3 will likely

    produce a smaller file size compared to WAV Output: MP3 or WAV
