24 “Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs,
but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!” 1 CORINTHIANS 9:24 NLT

The serious athlete doesn’t ask about how to just get
by in his training.
He asks about what will bring about maximum performance.
So the mature Believer asks,
WHAT Will make me most useful for the kingdom of
God?
WHAT Will stir up my zeal for GOD the most?
WHAT Will intensify my earnestness in prayer?
WHAT Will trigger more hunger for God’s word?
WHAT Will strengthen my longing to love?
WHAT Will fan the flames of my passion for holiness?
The world is tired of mediocre, lackluster, status quo, no
difference Christianity, and frankly, Jesus too!
The world is tired of mediocre, lackluster, status quo, no
difference Christianity, and frankly, Jesus too!
But we can do it with His divine empowerment!

It is He who works in you in the form
of the Spirit to accomplish His good pleasure and conform you into the image of Christ.
DETERMINED TO WIN
14 “I press on to reach the end of the
race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” PHILIPPIANS 3:14 NLT
The verb "I press" comes from a Greek word which
means literally "to follow after."
"I PRESS" comes from a Greek word which means literally
“To follow after."
The Greeks used it to describe a hunter who eagerly
and relentlessly pursued after his prey.

you see, a person does not become a winning athlete
by listening to lectures, watching movies, reading books or cheering at the games.
He becomes a winner only when he gets into the
race with a determination to win.
He becomes a winner only when he gets into the
race with a determination to win.
The Apostle Paul had a steadfast DETERMINATION
He would never quit.
He would not turn back.
He would not give in.
He would not throw in towel.
He would not slow down.
He pressed toward the mark of the high calling of
God in Christ Jesus.
He pressed toward the mark of the high calling of
God in Christ Jesus.
If you want to be a WINNER in this race
of Christianity
You must have a SPIRIT OF DETERMINATION
Sometimes you have got to put some energy and effort
in what you are doing for The Lord Jesus Christ.
Sometimes you have got to put some energy and effort
in what you are doing for The Lord Jesus Christ.
Victory doesn’t come easy, It takes a lot of sweat.
DISCIPLINED TO WIN

SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE involves not only practicing the things that enable
us to function more effectively
BUT TO AVOID THE THINGS that would displease God and
hinder our development.
It takes a great deal of discipline to run this
race called true Christianity.
The very word means "disciplined one,” the word discipline is
a foreign word to our lifestyle of instant gratification and push- button pleasures.
The very word means "disciplined one,” the word discipline is
a foreign word to our lifestyle of instant gratification and push- button pleasures.
If we are to be winners then we must discipline
ourselves to study God’s Word (Devotional life, prayer, Lifegroup, Sunday Celebration, Training and Life of generosity).
WE MUST DISCIPLINE OURSELVES I Devotional life I Prayer I
I Life group I Sunday Celebration I I Generosity I
It takes no effort or energy at all to fail,
All you Have to do is sit there.
Paul doesn’t run aimlessly or punch the air, he has
a destination and target in mind: to win people to Jesus.
Paul is focused on the outcome, not just the journey.
WE MUST CONTROL our lives under GOD’S DIRECTION
So that we can be an example of His life
to others.
When Paul speaks of being “disqualified” he is talking about
missing the reward for those who follow Christ.
Scripture teaches that everyone will stand before God and be
judged on the actions of their lives.
Scripture teaches that everyone will stand before God and be
judged on the actions of their lives.
Those who chose not to follow Jesus will be judged
for rejecting Christ.
Paul applied the principles of the Olympic athletes to how
he viewed his walk with Christ.
Paul applied the principles of the Olympic athletes to how
he viewed his walk with Christ.
He saw the disciple as in a race that required
discipline and offered a prize.
Paul ran for a prize that would bring meaning throughout
eternity.
He pressed toward the mark of the high calling of
God in Christ Jesus.
He trained to finish well, he trained to avoid jeopardizing
his heavenly reward.
He trained for the prize. What drove Paul?
Paul disciplined himself for a PURPOSE
Paul run for a reason, Paul fought real opponents, Paul
disciplined himself to avoid losing his reward.

DEVOTED TO WIN
13 “No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved
it, but I focus on this one thing PHILIPPIANS 3:13 NLT
13 “Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies
ahead.” PHILIPPIANS 3:13 NLT
Paul was devoted to one thing: Serving & Growing in
Christ
Jesus said to the self-righteous, rich, young ruler:
21 “Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for
him. There is still one thing you haven’t done, He told him. MARK 10:21 NLT
21 “Go and sell all your possessions and give the
money to the poor," MARK 10:21 NLT
21 “And you will have treasure in heaven. Then come,
follow me.” MARK 10:21 NLT
Jesus said to busy Martha:
42 “There is only one thing worth being concerned about.
Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” LUKE 10:42 NLT
4 “David said in the Psalms, “One thing” have I
desired of the Lord, that will I seek after.” PSALM 27:4
Most Believers are rendered ineffective because they are involved in
too many things.
Most Believers are rendered ineffective because they are involved in
too many things.
Satan’s deadliest trick for keeping you from doing what God
wants you to do (Discipleship) is to distract you by getting you to do many "good things." (Program minded)
WE MUST NOT ALLOW ourselves to be DISTRACTED in our
service to God!
21 “For to me, to live is Christ [He is
my source of joy, my reason to live] and to die is gain [for I will be with Him in eternity].” PHILIPPIANS 1:21 AMP
10 “All I want is to know Christ and the
power that raised him to life. I want to suffer and die as he did.” PHILIPPIANS 3:10 CEV
Paul gave up everything-family, friendship, and freedom in order to
know Christ and His resurrection power.
WHAT ARE YOU willing to give up in order to
know Christ?
CONCLUSION CONCLUSION
Jesus is coming and all of us will give account
for what we did down here, many will receive honor.
Jesus is coming and all of us will give account
for what we did down here, many will receive honor.
Many will rejoice with exaltation at His coming.
Some will lose everything when the choices of our life
are tested with fire.
Some will shrink in shame away at His coming.
We will grieve at the revelation of what we could
have accomplished in light of what we actually did.
We will grieve at the revelation of what we could
have accomplished in light of what we actually did.
HOW IS YOUR RACE GOING?
HAVE YOU DROPPED OUT OF THE RACE?
ARE YOU INJURED?
ARE YOU ENCIRCLED WITH THE THINGS OF THIS WORLD?
ARE YOU STILL ON THE RIGHT COURSE?
WHAT DRIVES YOUR LIFE?
WHAT HOLDS YOU BACK?
WILL YOU STAND AMONG THE FELLOWSHIP OF THOSE WHO SUFFERED
FOR CHRIST?
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
