Mon, 3/21 8:58PM 4:16 SUMMARY KEYWORDS disappointment, talk, goal, valley, schedules, person, mathy, stink, moving, overarching goal, incline, book, record, feel, sharp, point, mama, stinky, old timers, bummer SPEAKERS Patricia Sung Patricia Sung 00:00 Welcome back success mama. We're in module three, we're talking about James Clears book, Atomic Habits. This is the second part of the explanation. Patricia Sung 00:08 So I love that he calls this the belly of disappointment. It just makes me happy. He has this shirt in his book where, you know, here's our results. We're like, we stink, and we get better and better and better. And here's time where we start out and then you know, the more time we do it, it goes along, what we think should happen is the straight line is like, I'm working on it. And slowly over time, I will get better and better. And I should just keep getting better the whole time, right? Patricia Sung 00:31 What actually happens is that we stink at it stink at it stink at it still stinky, okay, kind of less stinky, stinky. You, okay? All right now making some progress. And then as you get better to Austin, then you have this sharp incline where you actually get far better. And for efficient quickly, in this section, like, Look how high like the line is pointing up, right? I'm not gonna get too mathy for some of my non mathy friends here. And what that means is that he calls us here, which got cut off the valley of disappointment is this area right in here, where we think we should be up here. And we're still down here. Patricia Sung 01:08 Okay. I wish my cursor was like a tiny bit smaller, but this little like halfmoon shape is the Valley of disappointment, okay, this is where we think we should be better off than we are. And we're grumpy about it. And we're just gonna be disappointed. And it's not till quite some time
  2. we're grumpy about it. And we're just gonna be disappointed.

And it's not till quite some time that we surpassed the point of where we think we should be. And we're doing great. And at that point, we usually forgotten about it and moved on to something else, right? So we have to make our way through that valley of disappointment. Wow. It's a bummer, right? Like, we just want it to be good, because we're working hard on it. Now. We will get there, we will hit this sharp increase, eventually. Patricia Sung 01:54 But we have to make our way through the valley of disappointment before we get there. And that's where it comes back to persistence is that even in the times where we feel like this really isn't working, and it stinks. And it's hard, and I like it. We keep going back to you and keep pushing forward. Because we know we'll get there eventually. It's hard to keep reminding ourselves of that. But it made me feel better. That's like, okay, it's not just me being whiny, like, there really is a period of time where we're going to feel upset. Patricia Sung 02:23 Okay, sorry. You know, we might have timers, all these old timers, alright. It's a good thing. They come through your, you know, your phones on vibrate, but also, now when you're recording, okay. Moving along, y'all get the real me not the fancy Polish me. Okay. I'm moving on. So James talks about our goal is to talk about who we want to become. The goal isn't to be somebody who does schedules. That's not the point. Our goal is like the why, like, who do we want to be? To me, my goal is to become a mama who's constantly hanging, handling her business, so that I feel less stressed, and I have more time to play with my kids and enjoy them and have fun. Patricia Sung 03:05 So that is, my goal is to become that kind of mom who handles her business is less stressed, can enjoy her kids more. That's why I do what I do. And I want you to do that same thing is think about like, what are you trying to become here? Because I doubt you also probably, like me are not trying to be somebody who just does schedules to do schedules. What are you trying to become? What kind of person are you trying to become? Patricia Sung 03:30 So here's your activity. Field, record your thoughts, whether that's journaling, brain dump recorder, a mind map, talking to a friend, whatever it is to work through? What is your overarching goal? It's not to be good at routines. It's to become what kind of person What are you looking to do? If you would be so brave as to put that in our post on our community and say my goal is to become what are who is what kind of person? What's your overarching goal here because I always want you to come back to you relating this back to our motivation that we talked about the beginning. What are we becoming here? Who are we becoming? It's good stuff.
