  1.  The first functional supercharger was made by Dugald Clerk

who used it for the first two- stroke engine in 1878. The worlds first mass produced cars that had a supercharged engine was the Mercedes 6/25/40 and 10/40/65 models in 1921
  2.  The supercharger became widespread in the use of aircraft,

but eventually became popular in the automotive performance industry. There has been vast advancements in the efficiency and technology of the supercharger, they have been made more efficient in the compressor’s ability and bearing and seal design. In the end, this modification became popular due to them being a safe, reliable, and affordable option to increase you vehicles performance greatly.
  3.  Superchargers mount to the intake of an engine and

basically just gather more air and compress it.  This compressed air is forced into the engine (forced induction) and in turn gives the engine huge power gains.
  4.  They are belt driven, meaning that they are worked

in to the belt with a pulley, that pulley in turn drives two cylinders “twin screws” that have long air pockets. When the twin screws spin on each other compressed air is built and forced into the engine, in turn increasing power with the right components.
  5.  The Centrifugal supercharger is a spherical unit that specialized

centripetal force witch pushes additional air. These superchargers are attached to the front of the engine and connected to the intake via tubing, this supercharger is also belt driven.
  6.  These centrifugal superchargers have become popular in “street” and

“race” vehicles. The drive belt powers an impeller witch pulls the air into a compressor housing then sends the air to a diffuser, these steps create very high pressurized, slow-moving, air.  After the pressurized air is made it is pushed into the engine witch will burn more fuel and create an increase of horsepower and torque.
  7.  I chose this topic because I have always been

into fast car’s and superchargers can make even the smallest engine put down a lot of power. I will eventually be able to build a car of my own and it will deffinently be supercharged.
