  1. INTRODUCTION In today’s digital world, cybersecurity has become more important

than ever. As technology grows, so do the risks associated with it, especially in wireless networks that we use every day. From personal data to financial information, everything is now connected through the internet, making security a top priority. Ethical hacking plays a key role in identifying and fixing these vulnerabilities before they can be exploited by attackers. By learning these skills through an ethical hacking course in Calicut, students can understand real- world cyber threats and how to defend against them effectively. This presentation focuses on wireless network hacking, common attack methods, and the best practices to secure WiFi networks.
  2. WIFI SECURITY BASICS WiFi networks are protected using encryption protocols,

which secure the data being transmitted. WEP is outdated and easily hackable WPA & WPA2 improved security, with WPA2 still widely used WPA3 is the latest and most secure standard Important components: SSID: The name of the network Password: Controls who can access the network Router settings: Determine how secure the network is If these are not configured properly, the network becomes vulnerable.
  3. COMMON WIFI VULNERABILITIES However, many Wi-Fi networks are vulnerable because

of these fundamental errors: Password is too weak, for example, “12345678.” Routers not updated regularly Open WiFi networks with no password Default username and password have not been altered. No encryption enabled Hackers do not necessarily require advanced technical knowledge. These vulnerabilities may suffice.. This topic is covered in the ethical hacking course at Calicut
  4. MAN-IN-THE- MIDDLE (MITM) ATTACK The MITM attack involves having the

hacker position himself between the user and the wireless network. The user thinks he or she is connected to a secure WiFi connection, but in reality, their traffic is flowing through the attacker. This is considered one of the most dangerous wireless attacks. Here’s why: Sensitive information is stolen Login details are compromised Banking details are acquired
  5. PACKET SNIFFING ATTACK Packet Sniffing Attack A Packet Sniffing Attack

refers to an attack technique that is employed by hackers for capturing and analyzing packets traveling over the network.. How It Works User accesses network (particularly Public WiFi network) Data travels through the network as packets The hacker captures packets using packet sniffing software If there is no encryption in the data → The attacker will see: Usernames & passwords Emails & messages Banking details Types of Packet Sniffing 1. Passive Sniffing 2. Active Sniffing
  6. OTHER WIRELESS ATTACKS 1.Evil Twin Attack The term Evil Twin

Attack refers to an attack by hackers wherein they duplicate a legitimate wireless network and invite users to log on to it. 2.Deauthentication Attack Deauthentication Attack is a type of attack on the wireless network whereby the attacker tricks the device into disconnecting from the WiFi network by sending deauth packets 3.Brute Force Attack In a Brute Force Attack, a hacker tries every possible password combination until they find the right one. 4.MAC Spoofing When an attacker changes (fakes) their device's MAC address to look like another device on a network, this is called MAC Spoofing.
  7. HOW TO SECURE WIRELESS NETWORKS The process involved in securing

a WiFi network includes the following: Encrypting with WPA3 or WPA2 Creating a strong password that contains numbers, letters, and symbols Modifying default router login information Disabling WPS These measures make a WiFi network more secure.
  8. ADVANCED SECURITY MEASURES For stronger protection, advanced techniques include: These

are professional-level practices used in cybersecurity. Using a VPN to encrypt internet traffic Regularly updating router firmware Hiding the SSID (optional security layer) Monitoring connected devices Using intrusion detection systems
  9. CONCLUSION Wireless networks have become a part of our daily

lives, making internet access fast and convenient. However, this convenience also opens the door to various security risks and cyberattacks like MITM and packet sniffing. Understanding how these attacks work is important not just for hackers, but for anyone who wants to stay safe online. By following basic and advanced security practices, we can protect our data and prevent unauthorized access. In today’s digital world, having knowledge about wireless security is no longer optional—it’s essential. Learning these skills through an ethical hacking course in Calicut can help you build a strong foundation in cybersecurity and prepare for future career opportunities.
