  1. Introduction Ulzhan Bassembek Application Number 89826 • Electrical and Electronic

Engineer • 2.5+ years of professional experience • Aim: Master of Science Degree in Smart Systems Integrated Solutions • Country: Kazakhstan • Hobbies: playing drums, gymnastics, knitting
  2. Education & Academic Background • Bachelor degree in Electrical and

Electronic Engineering, Nazarbayev University • Bachelor Thesis: “Interrogation of grating-based fiber optic sensors” Accomplishments • Event organizer at Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) NU Student Chapter • Dean’s List - top 3 student among 52 students Spring 2019, Senior Year • Diploma of 2nd degree in Mathematics Olympiad Courses: • Electromagnetics • Microelectronic Devices and Circuits • Digital Electronic System Design • Digital Integrated Circuits Design • Analog Circuits Design • Embedded Microcontrollers • Modern Characterisations for Semiconductor Industry • etc.
  3. University Project: Interrogation of grating-based fiber optic sensors Project’s objectives:

    • to propose a method of correlation between the reflective index and concentration of a biological substance (Thrombin protein) in human blood via real-time analysis of the Bragg wavelength change; • to calculate Bragg wavelength shift for Fabrication, Calibration, Functionalization and Real-time analysis. Applications: • real-time monitoring and analysis of biosensing data; • to develop biosensing and diagnosis of certain diseases, e.g. cardiovascular. Research activities: ▪ MATLAB code design; ▪ Simulations; ▪ Laboratory experiments; ▪ Data analysis.
  4. Major trends in Smart Systems Integration Challenges Higher computational powers

    – process more data at higher speed Higher accuracy of sensors and processing signals Lower energy level – optimized and minimized energy consumption Application domains Real-time disease detection Wearable and Implant systems Digitized Agriculture and food production Automated Vehicles Energy systems based on renewable sources IoT
  5. Research and Personal interests Parts of SSIs program I am

interested in •Smart Biomedical Systems elective area; •Courses: SSI Design Lab (Manufacturing Processes for Smart Systems, and System level modelling and prototyping), MEMS and IC co-design, Micro and Nano Biological systems; •Laboratories focusing on microfabrication and characterization; •Winter school in Norway and Summer school in Hungary. Research Interests •Bio-MEMS and biomedical smart system; •Application side of Smart Systems in Biomedical Engineering, especially in Neural and Brain Engineering; •Wearable and Implanted Smart Systems. Plans after graduation from SSIs program •Work in R&D on Smart Systems, Integrated circuits and Semiconductor devices (back to Kazakhstan); •Lead R&D projects in Smart Systems, Semiconductor devices and IC design; •Establish a Semiconductor startup company; •Long perspective: Improve Smart and Integrated Systems area in Kazakhstan.
