cocktail party’s on Twitter and the open house is on Facebook, LinkedIn’s the Chamber Business After 5.
  5. Improve your search ranking ‣ LinkedIn’s internal search is pretty

basic ‣ It can therefore be manipulated to your advantage
  6. How does LinkedIn search work? ‣ By default LinkedIn searches

by “Relevance”It’s highly effected by what keywords you have in your profile.
  7. People search Li by profession, locale ‣ If you type

in “Realtor Niagara” who comes up? Results are powerful as they also tell you how you’re connected
  8. You want to show up for relevant keywords ‣ What

are your keywords? Your profession, city, major skills ‣ Ranking highly matters. People don’t want #594, they want first page results.
  9. How do you manage search rankings? ‣ Search is based

on 5 key components of the profile. ‣ Keywords are worked into these 5 areas.
  10. 1. Your headline ‣ Headline appears in search results below

your name ‣ Be specific, “executive director” or “president” means nothing.
  11. 2. Current Work Exp. ‣ Search terms are highlighted here

when you search ‣ Don’t “stuff” keywords but make it comprehensive.
  12. 4. Summary ‣ Long form paragraphs ‣ Make it readable

for humans but be mindful of keyword usage ‣ Great place to for geography, associations and skills.
  13. Other things matter... ‣ # of connections ‣ # of

recommendations ‣ Connections with the person searching
  14. Your Public Profile Link ‣ Default URL for your profile

    is uglyhttp://ca.linkedin.com/pub/ brad-childs/21/955/18b ‣ http://ca.linkedin.com/in/ adamvwhite
  15. Why change your URL? ‣ Shorter ‣ Easier to share

    ‣ Can be used in business contacts ‣ It’s the nice clean result you want to show up in Google
  16. Shortcuts Are Dangerous ‣ Tools can automatically pull everything you

post to Twitter or Facebook into your LinkedIn feed. ‣ Don’t do this. Auto-posting is not conversation!
  17. Smart Shortcuts ‣ Use a multiple-account management tool like HootSuite

or TweetDeck or Seesmic but ONLY if you swear not be evil. ‣ Think before cross posting.
  18. Promote to Groups ‣ You are able to join up

to 50 groups on LinkedIn. ‣ When you share a piece of content on LinkedIn you can push it out to Groups
  19. Why share to groups? ‣ All members of the group

will see the content in a summary email the next morning. ‣ Better than email lists since those are often less targeted.
  20. ‣ The shared post is not sent to their LinkedIn

inbox but their email inbox ‣ Better chance of getting around spam filters with LinkedIn than you are running your own mailing list. Why share to groups?
  21. Do this tactfully ‣ Don’t spam ‣ Post only to

relevant groups. Don’t abuse a good thing or you’ll make people numb to your updates
  22. Q&A
