Automatic Rickshaws from Finland (Apr 2013)

Recent presentation from this spring, connected to the crowdfunding round we had at Invesdor.com. This is pretty current information, though the foundation hasn't really changed since 2010. The world has.

  1. Benefits 2-3 person cabin - right size for individual use

group mode for up to 9 people no timetables; no interim stops normal speed 45km/h fast mode (no intersections) 70km/h stations always at pedestrian level (or within buildings) climbs 0..90° effortlessly no protrusions in the track; ideal for snow, sand and durability integrates well with existing public transport modes (s.a. Bus Rapid Transit or metro) also usable as a stand-alone community / campus network more comfortable than using a private car fully self-sustained (electricity, communication) designed for resilience (accidents, catastrophies s.a. earthquakes) the most energy efficient means of motorised transportation (combines the benefits of rail and light vehicles) capable of operating also during floods (to 2-3 meters height) capable of routing through parks, forests, wetlands without disturbing wildlife or park users minimal construction time and effort dynamic track; can be dismantled and re-erected elsewhere no external electric contacts -> safe service based business model = easy purchasing, proven quality throughout the operations

customer development Finnish government contacts A patent application was filed in 2010 but it expired in lack of funds. However, we have clearance that the current design is not offending anyone’s patents. Current state We have 2-3 eligible pilot cases being discussed with local transport planners and cities. Also, the Finnish government is starting a ‘Smart cities’ project in spring 2013 focusing on part-financing 3-5 world-leading pilot cases. We aim to be one of them.
  5. Why Finland? Great talent and business - good educated workforce

(software, automation, machinery, project management) - many global leaders founded in Finland (Kone, Cargotec, Ruukki, Rovio, ...) - small country where people generally ”know each other” - good cleantech brand globally Emerging startup mentality - Lean Startup mentality is on the rise - society under stress from change = looking for new and more efficient ways - lot of construction going on in the Helsinki region (most within EU cities) Government support - government agency Tekes launching ‘Smart Cities’ program for 2013-20 - well established public/private partnerships - subsidies for piloting and rail-bound public transport Challenges: Finance infrastructure especially for investments of 100k..1M eur is lacking.
