  1. Inside them, you have the "real data" In the Bitcoin

blockchain, those are the transactions But really any data you can imagine qualifies Blockchain
  2. Along with the data, you also have a Hash. A

Hash is the result of a mathematical function that, if done correctly, should be unique. It acts as a sort of fingerprint of that particular data. Blockchain
  3. And that property is particularly useful when you add another

piece of data to the block The hash of the block that came before it Blockchain
  4. This means that every block contains a fingerprint of the

information that came before it All the way to the first block, the genesis block. Blockchain
  5. Which acts as a warranty that if any information is

tampered with it will disrupt the whole chain Meaning you would have to alter every block from the changed block all the way to the latest Blockchain
  6. Why not just change every block then? Because of the

way Blockchains work, there is a sort of "key" that is calculated for every Block It gives you the "right" to publish that Block on the chain, and takes about 10 minutes to calculate This process is known as Mining Blockchain
  7. Mining block is a very cost-intensive process. Which means tampering

with the blockchain costs so much money, it becomes prohibitive. Blockchain
  8. And since every participant in the network also validates the

information It becomes extremely infeasible to write "bad blocks" This is why the blockchain is considered a secure data structure. Blockchain
  9. This data structure makes Smart Contracts possible. Smart Contracts are

pieces of code written on the blockchain, in a way that they are reliable and immutable Smart Contracts
  10. They pave the way for transparency, reliability and trust in

a matter never before seen More on Smart Contracts soon™ Smart Contracts
