Lab-01 Replication Fire Stations in St. Louis, MO
c. Create a new project named Lab-01. Different versions of
ArcGIS Pro may have a different initial screen. Look to create a new project.
e. Confirm the needed data is available in Lab-01/data.
1. Right-click on STL_BOUNDARY_City.shp and choose Add to New Map.
2. Once the map has loaded, right-click on the STL_BOUNDARY_City
entry in the Contents pane and choose Symbology.
3. In the Symbology pane, click on the color swatch.
3. Choose the middle Black Outline option.
4. Change the basemap to a different basemap of your
choosing.
5. Click on Add Data in the Map ribbon, choose
Data…
5. …and then click through to Lab-01/data/PublicSaftey.gdb/ and choose the
STL_PUBLICSAFTEY_FireStations feature class.
5. …and then click through to Lab-01/data/PublicSaftey.gdb/ and choose the
STL_PUBLICSAFTEY_FireStations feature class. Your map should look roughly like this, with points for each station and an entry in the Contents pane.
6. Change the symbology by either clicking on the symbol
preview in the Contents pane under STL_PUBLICSAFTEY_FireStations or right-clicking on the layer. How you change the symbology is up to you! We’ll talk over the course of the semester about better and worse choices.
7. With the STL_PUBLICSAFTEY_FireStations layer selected, enable labeling by selecting
the Labeling ribbon and clicking the label layer button.
7. Choose the stationID from the Field dropdown menu.
8. Switch to the Share ribbon and select Export.
8. Change the Save as type dropdown to .png.
8. In the Lab-01 folder, right-click and select New >
Folder. Name the new folder results.
8. Save your map in this new results folder as
lab-01-map.png. Click Export.
