  2. CMS: A Critical Mission 2  CMS is known as

    the largest purchaser of health care in the United States  CMS expends approximately $1 trillion annually on Medicare, Medicaid, and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) programs  The Agency currently serves more than 100 million beneficiaries—approximately 1 out of every 3 Americans— making it the largest health care insurer in the world  The Agency has absorbed a significant amount of Affordable Care Act work
  3. CMS: Interesting Facts 3  CMS has about 5,500 employees

    and relies heavily on contractor support to meet its mission  Employees work from locations across the country, including the Central Office in Baltimore and 10 Regional Offices  At least 4 million claims and over 1 billion transactions are processed each day for services rendered to beneficiaries  Under the Affordable Care Act, CMS will cover approximately 30 million more beneficiaries beginning 1/1/14
  4.  OAGM helps CMS to carry out its mission by

    negotiating and administering hundreds of contracts, grants, and interagency agreements  We obligated approximately $8 billion in FY 12 through over 4,700 contracts, grants, and interagency transactions  CMS Active Contracts (with 630 Vendors):  1,116 Active Contracts  560 Active Contracts are with Small Businesses  OAGM currently has 216 employees OAGM: A Business Partner to CMS 4
