3 Why bother? • Lots of communities want to take action • But what should they focus on? – The small easy things? – The big difficult things? – Working out which of ‘their’ major emissions sources they could change and what difference it would make? • To do that – We need an emissions baseline – (this will also help you measure change…)
4 An example… • All emissions sources fall by 5% of 2018 value per annum • All emissions sinks (sequestration) rise by 5% of 2018 value per annum • We hit net negative in 2034 Net emissions ~ a Science Based Target Net zero emissions Baseline
5 What you may be thinking… • We need to measure: – Processes – Behaviour – & Stuff • We need an ‘all emissions census’ – Audit – Survey • But we don’t have the time/resources/skills
