  1. Reality is 3D. Associated descriptive information is trapped in bad

old 2D on pages and screens. This disconnect inhibits our decision making ability. AR to the rescue: superimpose 2D descriptive information atop 3D context. Why Every Organization Needs an Augmented Reality Strategy Michael E. Porter and James E. Heppelmann - HBR November/December 2017
  2. • Standing and waving outstretched arms is tiring • It

is very hard to point or gaze with accuracy, repeatability, and granularity. • low resolution + low contrast ratio means poor legibility
  3. • Occlusion due to 3D projection • Lack of physical

constraints • Pointing and gazing is a very low bandwidth form interaction. Similar to voice input.
  4. AR BIG Challenges AR lacks the necessary infrastructure. Matt Miesnieks

describes this as AR Cloud. The buildout is similar in scale to what is needed for autonomous vehicle.
  5. We have been trained since childhood to easily comprehend 3D

from a wide range of styles and representations.
  6. Keep an open mind. Resist orthodoxy. Don’t fall for the

“one true visualization to rule them all” tendency. There is none. AR is one of many approaches to extracting meaning from reality. Begin to think about how AR integrates into or extends pre-existing workflows and toolchains.
