In keeping with standards and principles established by the NAFSA Code of Ethics, the FAIE provides to the membership in its five districts professional education and training. This training is designed to strengthen and develop programs and services in international education throughout the state. The FAIE provides a forum for discussion of issues and a network for sharing information pertinent to international education. The FAIE holds that international educational exchange advances learning and scholarship, enhances respect and cooperation among the peoples of the world, and encourages constructive leadership in a global community.

Topics covered will include making initial contact with special program groups, preparation needed before the group arrives, services provided once the students are on campus, and benefits of special groups to the IEP overall. }presenter: Emily Kirby, University of Florida English Language Institute B  STOP the HATE: Fight Bias & Hate Crimes on Campus — Identify, Report and Prevent Location: Cornell Campus Center, Bieberbach-Reed Room (Building #325) This session will offer references for knowing how to identify, report and prevent hate crimes and hate biases. Acosta, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Daren Caine, University of Central Florida B  Preparation is Everything: A Model for Student Pre-departure and In-country Orientations Location: Faculty Club (Building #208) This session will discuss the intensive and innovative pre- departure orientation from the perspective of a state university. At UCF a model of preparatory online modules, an extensive individual emergency plan and in person group dynamics focused orientation are all tools used to prepare the students. This session will also explore the orientation that takes place in-country at a Scottish University, where a dedicated study abroad advising team prepares students for their experience. This is achieved through joint informational sessions with other international students, one-on-one academic advising meetings, and an extensive social program designed to introduce students to the culture and customs of the city and country where they will be studying.

     Whatever Happened to Nonimmigrant Intent?? Advising Students on Post-Graduate Options Location: 330 Winter Park Plaza, 330 W. Fairbanks Avenue A tutorial on how best to advise F-1 and J-1 students on their options for remaining in the US after OPT/Academic Training. This presentation will focus on the most common nonimmigrant work visa options (H-1B, L-1, E-1/E-2, O-1, E-3, TN etc.) and Green Card options.
