  1. Pillar #1 - Platforming Platforming is the art of moving

from platform to platform. Platforming was invented by Mario in 1985, and has been a very popular element in video games, whether intentional (e.g Human Fall Flat, Sonic), or added by the community (e.g Minecraft parkour, CS:GO surfing). Platforming is a good way to make the player think that they are advancing the story, as they move in a linear fashion, since almost all platformer games are sequential. 2. Pillar #2 - Possession Every good platformer game has a

gimmick. Something that sets it apart from the competition, and gives it its own unique twist. Mario, for example, has power-ups, Dead Cells has permadeath, Celeste has dashing, and Sunkly the Starfish has possession! He can take control of boxes and move them around the stage. This will be CRUCIAL to the other thing that sets this apart from your regular old platformer (mario 🤢🤮) - the puzzles. Maddy, the main character of Celeste, mid-dash. Perma-death means you’ll be sent back to the start when you die! Mario’s power-ups change the way you play!
  3. Pillar #3 - Puzzles My other big gimmick (in this

game, not me as a person 😝) is puzzles! Every level of my platformer game will have puzzles, whether it’s done with buttons you have to press, or with boxes you move, or maybe even cranes you operate! Puzzle games are commonplace in the videogame space, but slightly less common within platformer games, with games like Fireboy & Watergirl, Portal 2, and Poly Bridge. Poly Bridge, a great puzzle game! Fireboy & Watergirl, the father of the puzzle. Portal 2, also an amazing puzzle game!
  4. Pillar #4 - Prizes! When I say prizes, I mean

collectibles. There will be coins, as usual, but there’s also going to be wads of cash, so Sunkly can save up for actual investments. If he makes enough money, he can either buy a prosthetic limb, so he can return to the ocean and finally be accepted, or he can pay for an engineering degree, and pursue his true passion - engineering. schmoney 🤑 Sunkly could pursue his passion.. Or fit in and go back to his old life - as the cool kid! Sunkly :)
