Overcoming Organizational Resistance

Overcoming Organizational Resistance

The added value of Agile & Lean Software Development, User Experience, and other practices is continuously overlooked by most corporations. As a result, released products & services fail to meet end users' requirements and lack competitive advantage in already saturated markets. From small to large corporations, how can such methodologies and practitioners survive dynamically changing organizations, silos, or business goals? Research shows that resistance comes from specific individuals from these organizations. From over 12 years working within several organizations, this deck focuses on the barriers, tools and steps at your disposal to gain a wider acceptance of these methodologies in your own organization.

2013 Presentations – Example •  This is a really bad example of a PowerPoint slide. In this case, long textual paragraphs are used as a form of describing the contents of a specific slide. Please do not do this. •  Text in slides should be clear, short, and concise. Authors of presentations should not write long sentences or slides with too much information because these will quickly lead to the lost of interest from the audience. •  Usually, authors write long textual sentences so that they can read during a presentation. Nevertheless, reading a presentation out loud is tedious (both for the speaker and the audience). The audience would simply prefer to be at work reading the slides, instead of waking up at 7am to attend a talk that is dictated by the speaker. •  Images with good metaphors are a good way of describing information. All it takes is one slide with an image or an image and a short sentence (1-3 words are preferable, whenever possible). •  Of course, it takes a significant more amount of time to do a presentation using images as metaphors, than just writing a set of bulleted items.
