Understanding Islam: For Such A Time As This Islamism On the Rise The Three Forces of Islamism • Military forces – Jihadists fighting in the Middle East, and expanding their battle grounds to Europe, Asia, and the Americas – Formal fighting forces and ad hoc terrorist forces • Demographic forces – The powerful and dangerous combination of the declining birthrate of western nations, extraordinary Islamic migration through refugee resettlement, and high Islamic birthrates due to cultural norms and polygamy • Political forces – The Muslim Brotherhood’s focus on “ballots,” combined with pressures to be “politically-correct,” to treat Islam as a peaceful religion, and to pretend that Islamism does not pose a danger 4

Push for introduction of halal food, and call for Sharia law – Netherland 5.8%, Germany 7.1%, France 9.6% • 10% - 19%: Increase in lawlessness within ghettos ruled by Sharia law. Understanding Islam: For Such A Time As This Islamism On the Rise Eurabia? • The Economist – Described the concept of Eurabia as scaremongering. – Matt Carr wrote that "What began as an outlandish conspiracy theory has become a dangerous Islamophobic fantasy" • The Muslim population is not growing as fast as some scenarios claim, since the fertility rate of immigrants declines. This ignores recent refugee influx • Muslims are not a monolithic or cohesive group. Muslims do seek to integrate politically and socially. Muslims have little influence on policy (Israeli policy). • Eurabia, a portmanteau of "Europe" and "Arabia” – Political neologism referring to Europe becoming subsumed by the Arab World, because of European leaders betrayal or continued immigration and high birth rates of Muslims in Europe – Not all supporters of the theory see 'Eurabia' as inevitable. – Snopes.com provides this commentary on the following video… “exaggerations and some undocumented assertions” Source: Wikipedia 13

Understanding Islam: For Such A Time As This Islamism On the Rise Islamic Growth in America • Pew Research poll states 2.6M – 3M Muslims in US – May be larger number because many immigrants do not disclose religion – Not the fastest growing religion in US, despite many claims of such – 65% of legal immigrants arrive each year from Muslim countries • Growth of mosques in USA – 1,209 in 2000 growing to 2,106 in 2010 (US Census data) (74%) – Many mosques funded by Saudi Arabian, with strong Wahhabi influence – Most mosques in New York (257), California (247) and Texas (166) • Largest Islamic groups – Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) – Islamic Society of North America (largest Islamic umbrella organization) – Islamic Circle of North America – Muslim Brotherhood states it will dominate USA using “democracy and baby carriages” 15

Understanding Islam: For Such A Time As This Islamism On the Rise How Do Muslims See U.S.? • “Pew Research Center” Study 2014 – Muslim Americans: Middle Class and Mostly Mainstream – “Largely assimilated, happy with their lives, and moderate with respect to many of the issues that have divided Muslims and Westerners around the world.” – 47% see themselves as Muslim first, American citizen second • Important: Most evangelical Christians would say the same thing • 81% of British Muslims, 69% German Muslims – 40% believe Muslims carried out 9/11 attacks, 32% do not believe it, rest undecided – 35% support Afghanistan war, 12% support invasion of Iraq – 51% concerned that wearing hijab will result in mistreatment • Only 44% of women who wear hijab regularly share same view – 15% of Muslims under age 30 support suicide bombing. – 5% of all surveyed support Al Qaeda 17
