Scholarly metrics have traditionally focused on citation counts aggregated by journal. altmetrics is the creation and study of new metrics based on the Social Web for analyzing, and informing scholarship. http://altmetrics.org/about/ altmetrics looks both at new targets and new measures for scholarly impact.
