  2. EXPECTATIONS Students are expected to show P.R.I.D.E at all times

and adhere to our Class Values at all times. Response to a student’s failure to adhere to expectations is outlined by Harney Elementary’s 4 Tiers to Behavior Intervention. (see following slides)
  3. CLASS VALUES 1. Be Persistent 2. Be Respectful 3. Be

Dependable 4. Be Efficient 5. Be Safe
  4. HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS • Please check your child’s expanding file each

night. Anything in the HOME section is meant for you to either keep or fill out and return to school. • Students are expected to bring you the folder/any necessary items and to return any items the next day – they are more than capable of rising to this task and should be held accountable for doing so. They are also expected to be responsible for any homework/studying that they are assigned. Parent help is fine, but initiative is expected. • Work that is sent home as homework will not be graded as an official gradebook grade, but is expected to be completed. The work sent is practice in areas that students need to improve. We will discuss in class the importance of completing any work that is sent home and how it is similar to an athlete getting the practice they need before the big game! J • Incomplete homework will impact students’ PRIDE grades on their report card – especially in areas of persistence, initiative, dependability, and efficiency (as it will slow down our class time to have them catch up or find alternative activities).
  5. HOMEWORK CONTINUED: I am a firm believer in spending time

with family and finding learning through real life experiences. Homework in general will be extremely minimal – if it is taking them more than about 20-30 minutes, please let me know! I do not want them spending hours working on homework. I appreciate parents’ desire to have work to do at home with their child, but please know that I run pretty hard all day so that they do not have to have a great amount of work at home, too. If you are looking for something more for your student at home, please check out my alternative homework ideas (next slides). They involve important and meaningful work that is able to be done most places/on-the-go and is an extension off of the work we do in class on a daily basis. It is work that they need to continually work on throughout all levels of school. Of course, I will address specific struggles for individual students & this may entail additional practice work that comes home every once in a while.
  6. ALTERNATIVE MATH HOMEWORK IDEAS • https://login.i-ready.com or through CLEVER App

on student iPad: Ready Math’s digital program that we use in class. • Door 24 is an app through Ready Math – check it out! • Practice Math Facts! Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division – whatever you would like! The more fluent your child is in these, the better they are going to perform in Math. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen Math impacted by lack of fact fluency. Practice, practice, practice! Students may practice mastering Math facts by logging into https://www.mobymax.com/signin or through CLEVER App on student iPad - choose student & search Harney
  7. ALTERNATIVE READING HOMEWORK IDEAS • www.Epic.com – If you need

better book access at home, this is a perfect/fun/free option! Class Login: twt6493 • Mind Play App on student iPad – Reading practice at your child’s level • Read, read, read. Please give your child time to read! Often parents aren’t sure what to do to help their student’s comprehension. Simply talking to your child about their reading and asking authentic questions about why they connected with the story/character or what they liked about the book/why they chose the book will really get your child thinking about what is behind the text. Crunched for time? Talk to your kiddo about “edge time” and see if there are any times/places that fit in your family’s schedule that they could read. Turning off the radio in the car and letting your child read to you is a great alternative! I personally like to read in the Taco Bell drive-thru… that line can get ridiculous! J
  8. TESTS/QUIZZES • Students will have both a Math and Language

Review Quiz each Friday based off of the practice work done in class and as homework • Math Unit Assessments will be given at the end of each unit. • Additional quizzes may take place in various subjects throughout the year – I will include this in my announcements & on the Canvas calendar prior.
  9. I-LEARN STATE ASSESSMENT Name of Assessment: Window Begins: Window Ends:

I-LEARN: • English/Language Arts • Math • Science April 19, 2021 May 14, 2021 I-LEARN measures what students know and are able to do at each grade level. Based on Indiana’s Academic Standards, I-LEARN serves as a “learning check-up” to make sure students are on track. Check www.doe.state.in.us/ for more information regarding testing dates and standards covered.
  10. TRANSPORTATION • If changes need to be made to your

child’s transportation in the afternoon, please notify the office prior to 3:00. You should not depend on e-mail only, many times I am busy with students until after the bell. • Without proper authorization/notification from parents, students will be required to maintain their normal routine.
  11. BIRTHDAYS We love to celebrate our birthdays in 4th grade.

However, we are unable to accept food treats or gifts at this time. We will be sure to help your student to feel special on their big day in class! J
  12. FIELD TRIPS • We are still unsure if we will

be able to attend our usual field trips this school year, but you will be kept up-to-date on any changes to the situation. • Fourth Grade typically visits the Indiana State House and Indiana Historical Society.
  13. QUESTIONS? Please do not hesitate to contact me with any

questions or concerns throughout the year! Miss Walker 765-482-5940 ext. 12400 [email protected]
