2. PT.JUG brief history 1. Sun launched java.pt in 2004 2. Community meet on July 31st 2007 to discuss the creation of a national JUG 3. PT.JUG started o cially on September 4th 2007 during JavaPT07 4. First public event on March 6th 2008 5. Changed leadership in December 2011 6. New site jug.pt launched in January 2013 2 / 9

PT.JUG achievements & challenges First and biggest Java community in Portugal Realized events in several cities across the country, namely Lisbon, Oporto, Coimbra, Braga, etc. However, events frequency has been decreasing Team is scattered across the country, losing bene ts of focusing solely on a local community Need fresh blood Luckily, community members are eager to help We need to make changes! 4 / 9

PT.JUG new mission Aggregate all the Portuguese Java / JVM user groups under a single umbrella Existing lists will be open to members of all Java communities Facilitate the communication of meetups across all Java communities Decisions will be made between community leaders Organize speaker tours across communities Create an online calendar with all the events happening within adherent communities Help the creation of local user groups in new cities, providing mentoring and speakers Support national conferences (e.g. JNation) 5 / 9
