That’s what drew her to tutoring, serving as co-president of Engineers Without Borders, and running a website for aspiring engineers called Engineer for the Soul. She is inspired and propelled by the strong ties between her faith and the study of climate change, food security, and sustainable energy. She’s gained experience through managing large projects, working with communities in Cameroon, and conducting industry interviews for her website. Claire can’t imagine doing anything other than working to solve these great challenges of our time. Ten years before the Wright brothers’ first flight, Notre Dame engineering professor Albert Zahm was conducting aerospace experiments on campus and organizing the first International Aeronautic Conference in Chicago. Today, the engineering program continues to inspire and prepare engineering students to help inform the future of engineering. We teach you to think like an engineer, considering your work from many angles. We help you work like an engineer through service-learning projects and internships. students, one of Randi’s favorite opportunities has been studying classical architecture in Rome. And in her case, that’s because it gave her the necessary experience to earn grants from the Nanovic Institute so she could live, work, and study in Paris. There, she conducted two research projects and worked as an intern with the firm ARCAS on urban development projects. Randi not only enjoyed living the life of a practicing French architect, but she even got to design some buildings for communities in France—work she plans to continue after graduation. As the only American program that includes a full year of academic study in Rome’s historic center, the School of Architecture brings together a unique combination of classical training, hands-on exploration, and real-world experience. Our five-year professional degree program is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board and requires students to learn hand-drawing and drafting skills, while also studying architecture through formal ordering, traditional construction, and architectural history.
