1. GNOME’s Outreach Program for Women (OPW) Upasana August 23, 2014

GNOME’s Outreach Program for Women ◮ Helps people who identify as women or cis or trans to get involved in free and open source software. ◮ Tasks involve coding, testing, documentation, marketing, community management, support etc. ◮ Wikimedia, Linux Kernel, OpenStack Foundation and Mozilla are some of the regular participants (Perl participated only twice :( ).
3. About me ◮ An Indian, now working in Amsterdam (Of course, at booking.com). ◮ OPW round 6 intern. ◮ Worked on Structured exceptions in Moose. ◮ First time YAPC attendee.
4. How OPW benefited me ◮ 5000 USD (a huge amount if you’re living in India). ◮ Sponsorship for travelling to Sofia, Bulgaria. ◮ Met so many new people from different cultures. ◮ Enhanced my Perl skills, a big THANKS to my mentors, Shawn Moore & Jesse Luehrs and whole Moose team.

You could also become a part of OPW ◮ For becoming a mentee ◮ Choose a project. ◮ Contact the concerned mentor(s) via email or IRC. ◮ Ask him/her how you could make a contribution to the project. ◮ Contribute! Contribute! Contribute! ◮ If you have time then go to the previous step. ◮ Wait for the results.
6. You could also become a part of OPW ◮ For becoming a mentor ◮ Propose an idea on which your mentee could work for around 3 months. ◮ Project should be Free & Open Source. ◮ Project should be useful for the community. ◮ Make sure that you’ve enough time for communicating with your student.

Important Dates September 8 participating organizations are an- nounced September 8 - October 22 applicants need to get in touch with at least one project and make a con- tribution to it September 22 application system opens October 22 application deadline at 7pm UTC November 12 accepted participants announced on https://wiki.gnome.org/OutreachProg at 7pm UTC December 9 - March 9 internship period
