The program tells each family’s story in a way that lets the audience know that these are ‘‘good,’’ moral people living an idyllic, all-American existence It is as if these families have not been over-civilized and, henceforth, corrupted by city life. They remain pure and moral by staying removed from society. The audience learns, however, that this ordinary, all-American family has recently fallen on difficult financial times and is now forced to live in decrepit housing conditions.
